i'm chasing a magnesium clutch case for my 888, it's the one with the old ducati logo to match the 888 logos. if anyone can sell me one i'll pay a good price for a good part.

Here is another one. If you ask me, a bit of matt green paint and your own case, with or without milled slots and only you would know the difference.

I almost bought one used from a friend but the magnesium was crumbling around the bolt holes. It is a bit lighter but much weaker than standard. Don't fancy falling off and wrecking the cover and the clutch.

The mag cover for the other side is worse. The water pump body quietly rots through and you get a sump full of water.

Better buy some matt gold paint when you are getting the matt green. Anybody found the right stuff?

When You're in love of the 8xx Racing series, an important aim is to buy both mag. cases ...
That's what I did, but decided to keep them as spare parts (kind of trophy) ...

We all know how those items are fragile...
In order tn enhance the reliability of the engine, I chose the following solution ... made by myself !!!

The "green stuff" that is on magnesium parts is zinc chromate primer. It is put on to protect the magnesium from corroding.

See below:
Zinc chromate is simply a corrosion resistant pigment that is added to certain coatings. In the case of a wash primer, the phosphoric acid actually reacts with the metal, whereas in the case of zinc chromate this is not the case. In dry, low humidity weather the zinc chromate does not do anything other than remain in the coating. On the other hand, when the humidity in the air increases, or on a rainy day moisture for the air penetrates the primer coating and slightly dissolves the zinc chromate. The dissolved zinc chromate solution now does react with the underlying metal surface and forms a passive layer (like a blanket|) that prevents corrosion. As soon as the weather becomes dry again the zinc chromate no longer pays a role ... at least until the next time it rains, when the process is repeated. If there are frequent cycles of high and low humidly the zinc chromate will eventually be depleted and soon after you might start to see corrosion of the metal..

Zinc chromate primers are most often used in aircraft and military applications.
Aircraft Spruce in the USA carries them.

No worries Loony :P Mine now has a sporty little carbon half cover on it. Glorious racket that dry clutch :devil: Im waiting on some Zinc Chromate primer from Aircraft Spuce Co. to spiff it up abit.

Im working on the mate for the alternator, they are a regular bugger to find.

How clean is that !

It's filthy...just look at the hose from the brake reservoir, just below the clip !!! There's a speck of dust on there about 0.5mm wide. Of to the garage with you and give it a good clean Phil :P
