Apparently the flywheel on the 916 weighs in at 2.6kg's. Seen a lightweight one at 0,7kg's. However does the 996R have a lightened one already fitted?:puzzled:

I doubt if the has that much lighter a flywheel as it is sold as a roda bike, where the momentum given by a heavier flywheel makes for a smoother engine at low speeds, also the alternator will no doubt be the same as a road one as it needs to supply enough current for the lights, where as a race bike only has to wory about the Injection/fuel/ignition side of things.

I am currnetly looking at replacements for my 955 Corse flywheel, which is stell but has no starting gear so I need to replace it with a alloy one with starting gear which should way the same, but still a fair saving over a SPS road setup.

Interesting. Seems that the whole 996 and 998 range have the same flywheel. Exceptions are the SPS and SPSIII and the 748R. In the new range the 749R has another flywheel. However all 999 models have the same.

Don't know about the 996R but my 998R did not have a lightweight flywheel fitted.Thing felt as though it was stainless steel.I couldn't believe the difference in weight when i changed mine.
Only real downside was the bike does not want to tickover when cold now.Everything else is a benefit.Well worth it in my book.

When you get to my age fella, you can't be certain about anything!!! ;)

My doubt was whether I had the lightweight flywheel fitted to the R or the SPS (or both!!!!) ;)
