Just got this from the old man..gulp..

A picture is worth a thousand words.
>
> The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his
> reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.
> Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike
> hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed,
> they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came
> into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes.
> The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car
> with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of
> impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.
>
> All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This
> graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm
> Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The
> sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently
> obtained his license.
>
> At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per
> second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds
> the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a
> decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police
> indicate that no actions were taken.

Awesome picture, but I think it was a staged display from swedish(?) police. Meant as a wake up call at one of their exhibitions. Woke me up though

i'd be surprised if thats real at 155 the bike would disintegrate on impact surely??.

I occasionally start pondering these things when i am over the limit, at 150 thats like 2 1/2 miles a minute, a mile every 24 seconds, how far would you slide??!!

like Whitham said last week, try driving down the motorway at 100 mph, doe it feel fast?? yes it does, now try opening your door, then throw yourself out, thats what a WSB crash feels like!!

Seen this before and it got a similar response.

Looks bloomin scarey though - having said that, I can't see it being that painful.

Sign me up for a RC30/VW interface death - when I'm ready that is. I'm sure it's possible to get 160 out of a '30

I was sent the most awful link from a ZX12 owners site in holland.

The bike had hit a tree and the body had literally disintegrated.

I find it weird how people still turn in front of u, cut up etc, because they think you wont hurt them. Most people dont realise how heavy bikes are.

Im sure at even sane speeds many of us could still end up in someones lap if we hit there door. Though they pull out thinking u will bounce off them:puzzled::puzzled:

A mate of mine died quite a few years ago. He drove into the back of a Volvo estate in fog, killed the driver too. Massive intrusion into the cabin space, as they say.
Makes you think.
