Ok its a good idea - and I have a while to spare so I've created an edited version of Chi's thread so it only has descriptions....
Please DONT copy the text and add your comments to the end - it makes the thread too long & unreadable.
Just add your own brief details as you wish

22-Oct-2005, 01:50
And another one!
Ian Harris: Serial underachiever - 15 years travel industry experience (commercial & operational roles for airlines and tour operators) followed by 10 years in IT. Rode the "Year 2000" gravy train for all it was worth as an "Enterprise Resource Planning" contractor. Currently working in "Data Acquisition" for a travel website (XML, C# and all that malarkey).
Studied Sports Physiology at university, so know a bit about exercise / nutrition etc (Atkins Diet? Biological fricking vandalism :flame: ). Used to be a pretty handy racing cyclist, which probably explains why I still think going round a corner at 50 mph is pretty bl00dy daring. In my spare time, I've done a bit of HiFi reviewing which, along with my IT stuff, gives me a coveted "Platinum Anorak" rating on the Internationally respected ANSI "Geek Scale".
Always wanted a Ducati since the 250 and 350 Desmo singles were being tested in Bike and Motor Cycle Mechanics in the late seventies. Finally got my 996 in March this year, love it to bits and am doing as many trackdays as I can manage to try and move away from my current "Knees clamped to tank for maximum sphincter control" riding style.
So, if you want any advice on what to eat in order to get fit while sitting listening to music as you plan your next holiday on-line, you know who to call.

eric, there's no such thing as "bring in the wrong place" when it comes to here.
Yes, there are people here that can shoot your cufflinks off at 100m, others can diagnose a faulty computer just by listening to the whirring noise it makes, while others have jammed with Hendrix. But if I need a row of bricks cemented in a straight line then I know who I need to call.
C'mon folks, this isn't the claim to fame thread - what do you know how to do?

Competition shooting in the Army was as close as I got. I was only ever good with the L1A1 SLR 7.62 rifle. I came second in my battalion. I didn't really get on with the F88 Austeyr 5.56 - felt too plastic'y' and lightweight.
At least with the SLR there was more carnage :D
SLR, hmmm... t'was my favourite. 8" group at 400 yards was the best I could do tho

Air rifle - 1/4'' group at 55 yards? That's pretty impressive shooting!
I only shoot target at 25 yards with a 30 year old Finnish Lion .22 rimfire ( No scope ) Current average in comp is 97.6
Keep saying I will go to Altcar and have a go with full bore but never seem to get round to it.
( Too mean to pay for bullets )
But if anyone has an Accuracy International going cheap I could be tempted!

about bluddy time - I've been waiting for 2 years to find out what you do!
I'm the sites token IT Recruitment Consultant ... so if i can help, feel free to say hello .....
I've 8 years experience in it (took a sabbatical from it while trying to get my own business off the ground) but have now come back ....
New clients always welcome .... to see who I work for ..... go here :
www.pentaconsulting.com
I've got a Computing Technology degree but I know feck all except the basics about computers nowadays. Did 12 years as a field systems engineer doing hardware and software support on Hewlett Packard's bigger commercial systems then started teaching Unix and Networking.
Got drawn into the training and workforce development world and have spent the last 10-15 years doing that. Various roles such as a Learning Consultant, Course Developer etc. Ended up as HP Services UK Training Manager, then European Technical Course Development Manager so I've now got professional qualifications in Instructional Design and Management
For the last 4 years I've had a worldwide role in Performance Improvement for HP, which is a methodology that analyses the underlying causes for any underperforming workforce and designs a portfolio of solutions to improve and monitor performance gained as a result. Really enjoyed this and became the architect of HP's corporate methodology for this.
A lot of project management expertise goes into this line of work and as a result I've managed several global projects across multiple cultures and businesses.
Unfortunately, I'm quite good at project management (I never intended to be a career project manager - only did it as a neccessary part of the Performance Improvement role) so in the corporate shake up that's going on to shed 15,000 jobs, I've now found myself managing a project to outsource a whole load of European jobs to India :(
Don't enjoy the human aspect of that much, and I since I could be outsourcing my own job with this project I'll be looking to set myself up as a self employed Performance and Training Consultant for small and medium sized businesses if I get a big fat redundancy cheque

Anyway it's paid the bills over the years, about 20 years in all. Turned my hand to most things in life, have flown planes, done a bit of acting, raced lawn mowers (true), lived in numerous different places around the world, but always seem to end up back in London. Been riding bikes for about the last 10 years but only now learning to ride properly since buying a 749 - and I still have a long way to go.

Currently working as a AV tech repairing and servicing all the audio/visual equipment in lecture theatres and teaching rooms at the University anything from a CTV, data projector to a video conferencing unit.
Hoping to get a job in Video Production in the very near future, will involve filming in operating theatres (already help out with this now but would be more involved with the new job), making corporate videos etc. Will have to learn to edit using Avid and will also have to learn about live web streaming among other things, so a few new challenges :D
Really want the job as it's what really interests me but might have to make a few sacrifices as it will mean a pay cut for a year maybe 18 months while I'm learning.

Ive been working as a carpenter/foreman/superintendent and now something completely different. I teach, high school 16 to 18 years old and at risk 18 to 25 years old, carpentry and basic maths. Ex gang bangers drug addicts, special eds, learning difficulties, behavior problems all good fun. So I cant come round and fix your gate and I cant outsource too much but I may be able to track down an elusive part or obtain it cheaper. I have done this several times. Im tracking down a camera for a friend at the moment. And I have lots of bad habits.

Monster966 - Steve
Part owner/director of www.oglemodels.com We make mainly 1 off models or prototypes of pretty much anything from a small widget up to trains, planes & automobiles. Started out as an apprentice at Rolls Royce aero at Leavesden, you know, where Harry Potterland is now, sad reflection on successive governments lack of interest in manufacturing & the crap management & delusional union the place had. Still old history that. Interests are all bike or car oriented when I don't have family stuff to do.
Deej - Dave
Run my own motorcycle training here in sunny cornwall - Kernow Bike Training. Using that as the basis of growing the retail element upto where maybe one day I have the ducati franchise but for now www.averysmotorcycles.co.uk will do very nicely for the time being.
