like the look of slab side and, if I have to chnage anyway, thought I may go down this route...any risks with doing this?

no problems at all. I use 998 trackday fairings on my 748. must admit, the look is growing on me, especially with the 998R belly pan :)

You've just gotta go fast - that's all!!!! ;)

Those airflow / cooling vents must have been there for a reason I reckon - so don't slow down!!!!

Any advice on where to get good plastic 998 fairing lowers (prefereably pre coloured (red) and bellypan. Thinking about storing the carbon ones off the 998R and using something I am less worried will get nicked.

aniother reason to show yer bike off keefer...like it!! Are they plastic or f/g? Seen a set of 998r ones but not sure whether I will be happy riding around with 998R on the side! If I can find some similar just with ducati on, may be a goer and probably just a cheap as new std!

yep true tart me.
they are f/g working on some carbon ones at the mo.
doesn't matter what you get just get them sprayed however you like
I personally would not buy brand new as it will be very expensive as you say.
best to get some second hand
lots of red ones out there

;)

I saw Kev's 998 panels at popham where he had them for sale, looked like new, as he says next to no use at all.
Only draw back I can see is they probably have 998 on the side, not ideal for a 996SPS

Only the yellow 998 fairing will fit, the Red one looks ugly and tends to slow the bike down a little.

Also worth considering fitting an auxiliary fan as a 998 comes with twin fans opposed to a single on a 996, I assume (correct me if Iam wrong) to overcome the more restrictive venting
PS I have a LH and RH fairing (uppers and lowers)in black, these have been professionally re sprayed black after some road rash scratching but are in really good condition, only changing as I am fitting fairings to accept a belly pan.
