Collector box covers for an S2R

Hi All,

Spotted carbon covers for the exhaust collector box/cat on the S2R on a US web site. Part number 96964903B.

Has anyone seen or fitted these?

Also, anyone have any experience of problems with warranty etc with removing this cat for the Spareshack type 2 header replacement pipes?

I dont think you should have too many problems with your warranty,have a quick word with your dealer.And for that price($355 sale price)plus postage you'd be as well getting the cat replacement pipe-looks so much better too.
I got my dealer to fit mine as it can be a bit fiddly.
The only problem with the replacement pipes so far are around the bracket which secures it,a couple have cracked,on mine it sheared the securing bolt,
there could be a couple of reasons for this,the cat is fixed with rubber mounts whereas the pipe is bolted solid and any misalignment will put a lot of stress on that area

I'm about to replace that one with a stronger bolt but also widen the whole in the mounting bracket so it doesnt exert as much pressure when secured.

Looking at your pic, the bolt does indeed look misaligned with the hole in the bracket.

Can I suggest the following:
Using one of the original rubbers, drill the hole in the bracket out big enough to take it before passing the bolt through the rubber. This should utilise the rubber to take care of any misalignment.

If the original rubbers can't be made to fit, you will need to find some other rubber to substitute. Perhaps even a bit of rubber tube/hose could be made to slide over the bolt and take up the play in the larger hole. Use a couple of "penny" washers to "trap" the rubber in the hole.

In time probably. But just keep an eye on them whne you wash the bike. Eventually the rubber will start to break down, but not immediately.

Had a chat with the dealer and he wasn't too keen about the warranty issue. "Depends upon what goes wrong. If it is the engine you could be in a spot of bother".

This is my first brand spanking new Duke, and I saved long and hard for it. Soooooo.

I'm gonna leave the cat alone for now, and managed to swing a nice deal on the carbon covers. I also took a can of black exhaust paint to the cat, and she blends in quite nice with the carbon now.

Some may not like, but I'm pleased and mind at ease.

I was worried to at first about changing for the akrapovic slip on i have but my dealer had no problem with non-termi stuff:D:D and when i mentioned cat removal pipes said it wouldnt be a problem.

Love the yellow s2r wish i had black wheels :lol::lol: my white ones are grey now:o:o
