As is, anyone who rides a Motorcycle, if you believe what has been reported in this weeks MCN.

BRAKE say`s
Anyone who rides a M/C is a child killer.
Anyone who rides a M/C will end up dead.
One in 20 M/cyclists will die in a crash (which contradicts the above statment)
Its the MOST dangerous thing you can do.
A child hit by a motorcycle will always come off worse.
A child is a vulnerable road user, a Motorbiker is a lump of metal going down the road.
A lot of Motorcyclists dont leave behind proper facilities, eg: life insurance for their spouses and children.

All of these statments are spouted out, without any research or proof of study.
Yet this "safety group" influence`s govenment policy and the publics perseption of motorcyclists.

What should be done about these crazy, ill-informed, over- emotional idiots?

May as well say

anyone who breathes air will end up dead, so let's ban breathing.

Since we're all going to die at some stage, then any statement like this is true.

If you goto this page:
http://www.brake.org.uk/index.php?p=396

Click on the link about the press release sent to "Motoring" media.

A line in it reads:
For media enquiries and interviews with Mary Williams OBE, or parents whose children have been killed by bikers, call Aimee or Andrew at Brake on 01484 559909 or 07976 069 159

A bit strange that there's no mention of "bikers" in the rest of the document.

I did skim through another one, the national press release. It read:
Mandy Balmer’s 14 year-old son Martin was killed on 1 April 2005. Martin was crossing the road near his home in London when he was killed by a motorbike. Martin leaves behind a twin brother Michael and eight other brothers and sisters.

It doesn't give any other facts, like whether the motorbike was speeding, or the child stepped into the road without looking. And TEN kids! wtf!

I liked this one as well:
Jacqueline Wilson has personal experience of being knocked down when a child. When she was 14, she got off the bus at her stop and says she ‘was in a bit of a daydream, and was also waving to some friends who were still on the bus’. She wasn't concentrating on what she was doing and stepped out from behind the bus without looking and was knocked over by an oncoming car.

Maybe they should outlaw stupid daydreamers who don't look where they're going?

This lot would be on my list of going up against the wall come the revolution...

Nnnnnnghh this kind of stuff makes my blood boil. Immotive clap trap. OK if said biker is one of those prats on a field bike, no crash hat and nowt else charging up the road, then fair do's, jail 'em and chuck the key away, but don't damn well mix all bikers in with said morons.

Any stats that puts children killed by 4x4's with bull-bars at any blo*dy speed against those killed by bikes?

Any stats as to kids knocked down after their stupid blo*dy mothers park up opposite the school on double yellow lines, then open the road side door and let the kids out to run across the road rather than get out the car and escort them across? No I don't suppose so. Seen it done loads of times having parked the car up 250m up the road in a side street and walked it the rest. Lazy sodding mares

I kid you not, outside my wifes school they start turning up 30+ minutes before schools out, so they don't have to get out their blo*dy cars to meet their own kids. They then wave their kids across the road between all the other cars, whilst other mothers drive off from the kerbside looking into the back seat of their car rather than where they are going.

It's an absolute frikkin' miracle that more kids are killed right outside their own school by their stupid blo*dy parents.

Ever seen any coppers just up the road from a school with a speed gun between 8 and 9 AM and 3-4PM? No I haven't seen any either.

Ever seen traffic wardens putting tickets on cars parked on double yellows outside school entrances? No I haven't either.

How many 20mph limits have you seen around town 200m either side of a school?

Ever seen double yellows on the opposite kerb to school entrance not just the entrance side?

Incidentally my youngest was knocked down by a car mounting the kerb doing a U-turn right outside my house.
The council stuck a post by the kerb to stop some other dimwit doing the same. The very next day the post was knocked out the ground by some other wan*er in a car with serious myopia!

About time we started lobbying for stricter application of eyesight tests. Traffic violation you get breathlised, so what about, now sir read that number plate.
And get some of those speed vans off country A-roads and into town.

A pedestrian steps out into the road and gets flattened by a vehicle and the Vehicles to blame at whatever speed thay are doing??? that seems to be the gist of brakes thinking?

Better to stop the nuggit stepping off the pavement in the first place, not try and manage the consequences. There is only one "safe" speed for a vehicle and thats 0mph. It doesn't seem to enter some peeps thinking that the accident they just had might have actually been of their own making or they may have contributed in some small way.

Kids don't feel safe walking to school cos of the hype about killer motorists and assorted other psychopaths.

Roads are dangerous places, pedestrians should not expect to walk across roads willy nilly. A classic example is on local country road, humps, warnings, speed limit to stop peeps getting run over. Doesn't seem top stop the detemined goons from getting mown down though! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that a pedestrian tunnel keeps the walkers and the vehicles separate to the benefit of BOTH. The big factor is cost, the tunnel costs too much.

Nurse!.....................................time for me tablets

It's time we all woke up and see what's happening.
The news and all our meddiers show us what they want us to see and most are controlled by the government or have an agenda of there own.
just think has anyone been murdered in the uk today, yes there has but is it front page news? No, you will read about 2 or 3 per year, but last year there was hundreds murdered,
kids die every day, it's sad and as a parent I feel for them, but you should not run a country for the few, or over react,
like there doing over the terrorist, we had the IRA to deal with but kept our rights, and I think the IRA was much more dangerous.
I have not read the MCN yet, but have to say they have done more good than harm in the past,
we have been lied to by government and MCN is the only ones to print it as a lie, and is the voice of use bikers.
The PM would like it if we act us individuals.
dived we fall united we stand.

The MCN article was taking issue with a road safety charity called BRAKE who have put out an unsubstantiated claim that bikes are more likely to kill children on our roads.

The MCN editorial column seems to me to be a well balanced summary.

but they will show some parents that have lost there children and get the sympathy vote, and the next thing we know there will be a TY program and we will be public enemy number one,

No but I've asked the copper who is involved with the local "safety camera" project if they will do one at the school in Towcester and you can apparently request a camera van presence if you feel there is a danger area not being checked. All the same reasons; moronic women stopping without warning, speeding down the middle of the road round a blind bend with their kids and their mates kids on board. Like you I fail to see how so few fatalities take place outside schools. Best I ever saw was a woman driving along in a big 4x4 with loads of kids bouncing around unbelted in the back, she must have been late as she was still eating a bowl of cereal driving along in the middle of town at going to school time !!! Drag 'em out and bullet them in the back of the napper is the only answer.

Don't get me wrong I really really like women :P but I'm at a loss to know how the hell they are supossed to be better, safer drivers than blokes. Lets face it for 1/4 of their adult life most of them are totally without any sort of reason.:D:D

Do we need a reason???

Thought this thread was about the attack on bikers???
It's not just the women that drop the kids off @ kerb side...fathers are just as big a culprit, yacking on mobile phones taking care of business meetings, whilst carrying two or more kids in the back!
Perhaps if ALL fathers had to take on as much responsibility as the mums...You know, shopping, doing their packed lunches, ironing their clothes, getting them dressed in the morning, checking that they have all their school kit and lunch money, whilst having to hold down a full time job and wondering what to cook him indoors for dinner that evening (which I am sure you all do because you are all such wonderful husbands, fathers and partners)...we wouldn't have women careering round like headless chickens and driving around dangerously.

Can we chuffing get back on topic instead of ****ging off women...I'm afriad you need us...You have no choice...we have no choice

I dont know where I read it but the Transport department kicked the 20mph outside schools into touch saying it would impede the flow of traffic and the public wouldnt accept the congestion.
so its not about safety then as if we didnt already know, but they didnt mind banning offroad activitys.

Tell you where there is a 20mph zone now though that used to be a GLF.

Go out of Keswick on the lakeside road towards Borrowdale and out to Honister Pass. From just out of town (30mph!!!)to the end of Borrowdale is now 20mph because of the 'ramblers'.
It is even more dangerous now than it was when the national limit was in force. Reason, the stupid idiots think they are quiet safe walking down the middle of the country lane instead of in the verge where they were before. You go round a blind bend to be met by Dennis and Ethel Trampalong and 30 of their brethern blithly and blindly walking up the middle of the lane.
Bl00dy bananas man! :flame:
