Woman's first car after 40 tests

Venida Crabtree says she is delighted with her new car
A woman who took 33 years to pass her driving test and spent tens of thousands of pounds in the process has bought her first set of wheels.
Venida Crabtree, of Cowley, Oxford, qualified in July at the age of 50 after starting lessons in 1972 aged 17.

The former publican believes it took her at least 40 attempts, at a cost of £27,000 with seven instructors.

Mrs Crabtree took to her second-hand 980cc Suzuki [CAR!]on Wednesday, freeing her husband of a life as her "chauffeur".

"She's driving for the first time today and I'm no longer the chauffeur," said Ralph Crabtree, 53, who drives for a living as part of a delivery service.

Mrs Crabtree said: "It's fantastic. I'm very pleased."

WHAT!!! After 40 attempts should she really be allowed out on the road? I'll make sure I avoid Cowley on a bike for a start!

i agree, if someone takes more than 10 even, they should never be allowed on the road..obviously not cut out to be drivers.

yep, some people are so dum that after 33 years of being told that she is not good enough to be aload on the road that she still did not get the hint,
just dum,
and to think it will be some one else that has to prove to her that she shouldnt drive, probly her insuance. or the police.

It took my son who is 25 12 tests / 5 years before he passed. He has been driving now 3 years no accidents and is a great driver.

Despite taking so long, she's finally made the grade. Amazing tenacity, give her a break!
I would trust this driver more than a 17 year old lad who passed his test first time.

She should be chained to the kitchen sink for all our sakes.
