Simple Modifications?

Want to tweak my 916

1. Gearing. The bike is overgeared, I would like to change the sprockets to increase the acceleration and get some more useable power (rather than having to click down at 70mph at 4,000rpm for an overtake)

What size front and rear spockets? Some have said one down at front two up at rear?

And which chain?

2. Tyres. I have Metzeler MEZ3's on it and find them as I do on my R1 very scary. I was thinking of some Diablos?

3. Air box? Is it it worth it in performance terms, purchasing a set of enlarged carbon fibre air tubes.

4. Brake pads. I have bled the front brake, but still find the braking lethargic, I guess the pads are OEM and they seem to lack bite to me. Anyone have any reccommendations to increase the initial bite and stopping power?

Why doesn't he just get the pads and save the money from buying the wave discs.
I personally don't see the point of buying these discs.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the standard discs.

My bip had crap brakes that used to fade on trackdays and as you describe felt very lazy.....

I changed the obvious and changed the m/cylinder for the later type which only improved marginaly on what i had had....

The answer in my opinion is the calipers on the 916 arent up to the job... I now have an sp3 this has full floating cast iron discs, same m/cylinder and calipers as the bip,but fitted with good quality pads
The brakes are a lot better but still not a touch on the 996bip which carries the later and larger brake calipers..

You could always go for the full brembo jobbies..... OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH lovely

you would only have to look at the front brake lever and they would stop you dead!!!!!!!!!

like weeksy said, tyres first. Diablos sound very good in the reviews.

Braided lines and Carbon Lorraine SBK3 pads.

2 up on the rear (and a new chain and front sprocket if you can afford it)

Quickshifter, not too much money but loads of fun.

Make me an offer and you could have my breaking system off my 2001 996 SPS.

The system is complete with mastercylinder and gold line calipers fitted with brand new (except for 12 laps of Donny) SBK carbon pads and braded lines. I took the system off my bike on Saturday, it wont even need bleeding since the sytem was removed complete.

New tyres it is then, the MEZ3's are truely awful.

Will order some SBK3 pads today for the front brakes, the rear is fine.

Was thinking of getting some new cylinders but have just spent a packet at Casoli! On bike candy.
