What sort of power does the 1000 SS have as standard, also wondering if there are any big bore kits around and maybe what power can be coaxed out of them ?

Thanks

Jhp do a 1080 bigbore kit and seeing as a 944 can put out 100.2 bhp (with testarossa heads) i would have thought 110 would be on the cards.

I have been wanting to build another road bike for myself, doing my research on Ducati's and now I have one which I really enjoy on track I am thinking the same for the road but I would like 100hp, could I take a 900 to 100hp pretty easy ? ta :)

I wouldn't say getting 100 ponies out of a 900 was easy. You'd be better off using the 1000DS engine as your base for that - IMO. I would anyway.

That would be a pretty good bike I reckon! Have a look at the NCR I posted in the Thunderbike thread.

Out of the box a 1000 delivers 85-88bhp. Close to 100bhp is easily attainable with the 1000DS using pipes, filter and an FIM Ultimap setup. I'm possibly buying myself a 1000SS for racing next year or road use.
:D

:D

What class would you race it in Nige?

The more I think about it the more I really like the idea of racing one of these! Check out the Thunderbikes Proposal thread.

In Thunderbikes of course! ;)

Mind you - what do you think I have a 2nd 800 for? That is undergoing a serious weight loss program atm. I think I'm gonna have to sell my 748 and triumph to pay for all of this. :o

CC. The 1000 makes a better base for racing/tuning anyway from what I understand as it's substantially different internally from the 900, as is the 800.

Hrmmm ... now I'm seriously thinking about Thunderbikes for 07 .... I don't know why you keep buying 800's .. I think you have too much money! Unless of course you were keen to put me on it for a minitwins season :D

You could lease my spare 800 off me. ;)

I'm holding fire on the 1000 until I see the series actually get off the ground. One thing you need to remember with these bikes is that the ECU's are not tuneable - they cannot be remapped. Also, the integrated instruments/ECU/immobiliser is a complete pain in the ass for racing. You know the story on this anyway Tony.

Leasing you say ... hrmmm .... that's interesting ... I think we might need to have a chat :D

I think the 1000 ECU is able to be remapped. But I don't think it matters for Thunderbikes, you'd be allowed to swap them because they allow more tuning than minitwins.

I may just look for a 1000 for a road bike for next year, make a nice base for a trackday toy and potential race bike for the year after too ;) ;)

A very cunning plan indeed!

I've just started having those thoughts myself ... although, that means the 998R won't get ridden as much ... I feel bad about not riding it that much since I've had it. But I won't race it.

I wonder if "Turbo-pacs" is still around here.

The guy seemed to be an absolute wiz with ECU etc and from our last chat at Croft was virtually building and mapping his own!

Wonder if he could help ???

nope - it is 94/95hp depending on whether fitted to ss/ms or monster, due to differences in the pipework.
Mine makes 98 now, from 95 dyno'd std, purely with fitting good qual MHP cans.

HTIOH?

Well it depends upon the dyno of course - here's where I took my reference from:

mine was from the 'packet' Nigel - when I got it, and also from the dyno to back it after.

Also take a look at the spec on Ducati.com for each of the 3 1000 ds engined bikes.

Life's too short - I can't be bothered. I've quoted a respected Ducati tuner - a couple of bhp either way doesn't really matter. I'll be interested to see what mine delivers when I get it.

fair enough.
I was just quoting ducati specs, but dont mention to Domski & some of the DD boys about a 'couple of hp' - as the difference in 6 - 10hp is loads for the 583's & 620's!

NCR get a reliable 120bhp from the 1000ds lump in the race spec Millona. I know Chris Kelley is getting similar figures from a 1080, but I'm not sure you'd want / need to run it so high. I would have thought a useable 110bhp with decent throttle response and a nice fat midrange would be far more useable.

My long term plan is to do just that with my 900SL, but donor 1000ds lumps aren't easy to come by, and my bank manager would laugh out loud if I asked for the cash.

Cheers,

Ali

Stop it, I'll drown in my own drool!

What a weapon! 120hp 115kg's of Millona ..... grrrr
