View Full Version : 999 S
I was going to buy a 749 R motor and throw it in my 749 S but then I will loose money in the long run, so NOW I am thinking of a 999 S cant even get close to the money I need for a 999 R .
SO you guys with a 999 S are they good bikes, is the 06 any better than the 2005 ? Are they worth the big bucks ? Or pounds in your language :D
Anyone gone from a 749 to a 999 ? Is there a huge difference ? I wanna test ride one but there is NONE in Sweden that I can try :(
Thanks in advance
Rick
aye up rick , i believe that there are no changes to the 999s for 06 , mines an 05 , you get an asym termi with it , and for me its dog,s the danglies . basically the 05 s is the same engine as the 04 r minus some magnesium , probably 04 r owners will disagree :D you could get an 04 r for the same money as a new 06 s its all down to preferance ,do you want new :puzzled:

the 05 s dosnt have the same motor as the 04 r, its still long stroked.
it looks the same due to the different power calculations,04 r at the rear wheel,05s at the crank..
Thanks, Has anyone gone from a 749 to a 999 S ? :eureka:

but i must add after having both 03s and 04r the biggest thing is that 999s tunig parts are more readly avalible

I went from an '02 999bip to the '05'S'.
The 'S' has around another 20bhp on the older bip.
Man you can really feel the differance in the motor,...very strong at the top end. What a bike!:smug::D
I test rode a 749S (I was gone a long time, my dealer was getting concerned ;) )before I bought my '03 999S. Big difference in power characteristics. I'm not so good a rider that I could tell the difference between the 749's Showas and the 999S's Ohlins.
All this is a bit out of date though, as you're talking '05 and '06 now :D

Got a 999 05, no difference between 999 2005 and 2006..
If back in time (february this year) I will rather buy a 999 S... it is worth the difference in money, as now if I want to uprate (and I will..) my 999 with a full Termi system and other mods... it will cost me 2000 almost Pounds... and I will still have showa instead of Ohlins back and front.
So if you have the " currency" ..get a 999S 06'.... or at least a 05'

Ive got an old 999s 03 that was new when I got it this year and have to say that if I was in the same boat, ie a 05 bip or a 03 S I would have the S every time, but with you it the 749r or the 05 999s, I would go with the power if I was you, you know it makes sence

Went from an 03 999 BIP to 06 999s BIP.
Awesome difference, although not too difficult to better in my opinion.
20bhp increase? Wasn't there a comment whereby the 'location' for taking the reading has changed hence such a large jump - i.e. WAS taken from back wheel, NOW taken from crank/sprocket?
IMHO - get the 999s, but I'm biased.

BikeMad said: "I would go with the power if I was you, you know it makes sense". Don't necessarily agree...I've ridden std 759 vs 999 and - depending on where you ride, if you're a trackday fiend, insurance costs etc - I'd go for 749 and use more of it, more of the time.
Thanks everyone, NOW I just need to find where the kids hide their mony boxes.

I went from a 999S to a 749R , no noticable difference in performance other than at the very top end but the smaller engine revs much higher and smoother , lots more fun and involving to ride :) , and mine is an 04 so has ALL the R extras.
As someone else said , you will get an 04 R for the same price as a new S , and regardless of power figures / engine stroke similarities etc and R is an R , less of them , more desirable , do you really need to think about it ?
