Managed to catch up with my photography backlog so took the chance of a bit of free time to start taking the motor out of the 748R ready for it's trip to Cornerspeed for the investigatory stripdown (aka the Winter Project).

Feel quite buzzed up about the bike for the first time in months....I see this job as a positive in that I'll hopefully learn a shedfull about stripping and rebuilding the motor, job that I've never had the confidecne to try in the past.

Go for it Guy, hope it all turns out as you would like it to. I'm expecting a longish winter so I doubt if you will miss many good riding days between now and April

Guy, I've got a made to measure wooden box to securely transport Ducati engines, if it's of any use. I've also got a spare gearbox somewhere, although it will be a Corsa box, if that's of any help. Gis a shout if you need a hand.

Thanks Kev & Felix.....

Might take you up on that offer of the engine box Felix.....Hope to get the motor out within the next fortnight, time permitting.

Regards, Gc

My 748 is at Cornerspeed at the moment, awaiting Nelly's magic touch for a engine strip down, bearing on the gearbox output shaft is knackered:(, so means engine out & full strip:o, mind you it has done 26,000 miles so a strip down will do it good. Mind you i don't have the balls to strip the engine out, rode it over the other week, let the expert at it I say;)

Chris.

Not too far off..

Dropped all the fluids yesterday and removed the hoses. Front sprocket is off as are the zorsts. Injectors etc all off.

Just a few bits to remove and I should be ready for the dreaded swingarm pivot bolt. Having said that it shouldn't be too bad to get undone as it's only 2500 miles since it was last out and it ws WELL greased before it went back in..

Hoping I can drop the motor quite easily with all the oil cooler etc intact and leaving the radiator still in the frame. Can strip the remainder of the stuff off of the block once its out.

Might get another chance at it later this week all being well.

Guy, for the sake of one bolt, a hose and a wiring connector, I'd get the rad out of the way. Last thing you need is the front head bashing the back of the thing and buggerin it ;)
