Just heard on BBc that former world rally champion Richard Burns has died from cancer. 34 years old. Great bloke and ambasador for the sport.
Sad sad loss

RIP Richard, he was one of the best rally drivers there was, and a really nice guy to boot, always up for a chat when I used to follow rally around the globe years ago.

Yep, a very talented driver. I'm glad he had the chance to prove he was the world's best before his premature death.

RIP

I don't normally reply to threads of this nature, but that news has really saddened me, much more than George Best's demise. I often wondered how his treatment was going, had even searched the net a couple of times looking for updates, though without success. Such a waste of a young life and such a talented - and nice - bloke :(

Lizzie, i too had tried to find updates. Cancer is evil. i Lost both my parents to it and so many good friends and colleagues. All the more reason to live life and do as you wish, i'm sure you don't get a second chance.
My thoughts go to his young family.

Aw bloody hell. I hadn't heard anything of him for ages, so assumed he was better. Met him several times and he truly was a gent.

I competed against Richard Burns when he was just 17 years old. It was a club level rally near Bagshot. He won the event ;)

Truly a gifted driver and all round nice chap. A great shame.

Quite shocked to hear the news!!

Was very dissapointed on how little coverage this got compared to George Best. A little caption was it on Sky news.

One was self inflicted, and one wasn't, yet we make more out of one cos he was a footballer.:puzzled:

Sad day for the Rally scene as he was very genuine bloke!!!

Rip mate.

I suppose If he kicked a bag of wind around and was a member of the AA he might have made the Headlines.

IMHO thats a bit harsh.

They are both gone and were both loved by their families, friends and fans alike, the amount of publicity that one or either of them receives is of no importance.

They were both great "sportsmen"

RIP
