View Full Version : Track 748R winter project!! PROGRESS UPDATE!!

After rebuilding my damaged 748R last year to immaculate condition, and not daring to take it on track, i wanted another one that i cud get ready just to take on track!! That i wudnt be to upset about if i scratched it or anything more!!
Hence i bought this sorry for itself looking bike off ebay about 2 months ago! Been used on track all its life, but been maintained by sigma and the engine does sound spot on although it will be going to our very own Nelly for a check over and the belts doin before it returns into its frame!!
SO when i took delivery all the body work was only good for the skip, the Ohlins forks dumped there oil all over the drive when it came out the van!! and it just generally looked like a bag of ****, got it all stripped down and this week managed to get the frame and wheels powdercoated and the swingarm filled and painted. Then started putting the frame back together! Just need to save a few quid over xmas so i can get a few more bits and bobs dun and a trip to nellys!!

Looking good chap.i could all excited about a job like that.
Who did the powder coating and what colour did you ask for please?
Chrisiball

Yeah im excited but havent got the patience i wanna it runnin tomorrow!!!
C J Powdercoatings at Grimsby blasted and coated the frame and wheels for £140, Frame is Ducati red, and the wheels are Satin Black, painted the swinger with PJ1 satin black.
When you say Ducati red, was that a specific they did, or a guess on their part?
I have a local powder coaters, their red is virtually Ford red/ al la ducati red!
Ahhh, a man after me own heart. Good job you're doing there.
Rgds, Rob

I sed i want it as close to ducati red and it came back like that which is pretty much spot on, compared to my 748R road panels! Im happy with them the finish is excellent!

Looks like you're spending too much cash on a tracker! You sure you won't be bothered about scratching/dumping it????
Chrisiball
12-Dec-2005, 19:03
Its only a bit of powdercoating, engine service and some panels, either vimori or Barrys! my budget is £500 (ish)
I like my bikes to look half decent even if it is gona be a tracker and possibly get binned, everything im doin to it am doing myself were possiable, i.e ive filled and painted the swinger turned new crash bobbins, stripped the engine as far as i can before it goes to nellys, ive just spent my full day at work marking out, cutting and filing the primary drive cover to look like a corse one! Then im gona bead blast that and the alternator case tomorrow and paint them satin black a la Nellys. idea if anyones seen his bike they look fantastic!!.

Fair enough matey - just checking!!! It looks great :)
I would totally support and appreciate your efforts mate......... i did this with a cheeky little vfr 400 for the other arf.
This is a big part of what ducati ownership is about.
Fantastic!
Very nice m8, can you still read the frame number or has the powder coating obscured it, the reson I'm asking is I was thinking of having my frame done but the last thing you want is the mot guy scraping your frame to read the number.

Nice one Glynn, will be in touch!
Just a quick pic of the primary drive cover ive just finished its not dryed to the satin finish yet, but i cut the corse slots out yeterday and am well pleased with the results!!
Chass - Yes you can still clearly read the frame number but the dots are slightly smaller.

Chrisiball,
I sent you a U2U yesterday regarding fairings - did you receive it?
Cheers,

As i said mate it was only good for the skip, which is were it went, they were absolutely crap, real flimsy and all the holes for the fasteners had cracked or pulled thru!
DOH! Sorry 'bout that - I missed that in your first posting - must learn to read/understand original postings !
Cheers,

Another source for your fairings Chris is H.C.Racetech
http://www.hcracetech.co.uk/
Just outside Lincoln, does full paint job as well, made to your spec etc, give him a ring.
Also he now does the newer flat sided 748/9** fairing & the nose fairing has the smaller standard air tube holes, for road or track

Black was my "other" choice, but as the fairings are gonna be predominantly black, I thought red would look better.
May well take you up on that weekend thing too......
