Anybody know best crash bobins to fit 800ss , will i have to cut fairing?, i would rather not

Hmmmmm....
There have been debates on here about the pro's and cons of fitting mushrooms. Lessened damaged to visible parts against the trade off of possible (and less visible) frame damage.
R&G products make well recommended ones that on the older SS models - replace one of the engine bolts and then mounts the sliders on either end.
I think most will require mods / cutting to the fairing.
I have some very cheap ones on my 900SS that are just for show really in that the use one of the fastner points on the main fairing - the bracket holding it all in place is so flimsy really that if the bike ever went down, I suspect the bracket would detach first.

I have a set of R&G ones which I bought last year for my 600ss but never fitted. They do not fit the later bikes which have a larger engine bolt, I could sell them if you are interested.

I bought the R&G ones after I highsided my SL (horse, stable and all that...)
Despite speaking to R&G on the phone they didn't fit.. The mounting bolt rather than being one long bolt came as two separate studs. They eventually, after much p-ing around, made up a long stud that fitted all the way through for me.
I think they'd do the job up to a point (along with a strong billet clutch cover) but you'd get to a point where they'd end up being fairly useless. Saying that buy the time they bend the frame the bikes probably going to be so knackered it'd be irrelevant anyway.
Would I buy the R&G ones again... no. Would I buy mushrooms again.. yes.

Hmmmm, not sure on this one. Mine saved all the bodywork after a 100mph off, but I've yet to check the frame and it looks like the engine is slightly off-centre (but it might just be the airbox has been shunted across). Either way they did a good job of saving everything almost else (including the forks where the bungs completely dissappeared!) so were probably a good thing in the long run.
They were R&G, a bugger to fit, and I had to drill the fairing panels.

Thanks for the advice fellas am i any wiser? i think so, maybe i will just fit 'em for show then i don't have to make any changes to my Duc
