I have had my 748 for ~ 4 months now and I am getting used to the power. What will give me the best power/buck upgrade. Termis, filter or power commander ?
PS - I got the Moto GP 2005 review for Chritsmas and I find the 'Hello boots' saying very annoying!!
Thanks
Pipercross Filters
FIM Chip
CAM Dial In / Top end refresh
853 Conversion / SP Conversion
Full Dyno Setup for each of the above
Termi's depend on the price. They can be had quite cheap now, so it depends on what you pay for them.

what model and year of 748 is it ?
what sort of budget ?
really the simplest and cheapest 'power mod' is dropping the front sprocket size.
More info will get you more answers :)

Year 2000 748 BP

doubt you will be able to drop the front sproket. That mod is normally for the 996 etc which has a 15 tooth front sprocket and everyone fits the 748 14 tooth front sprocket to get quicker acceleration.
You should already have the 14 tooth front sprocket on a 748 and you can not go any lower.
Better mod for you would be 2 or 3 teeth up on the rear sprocket. May knock 10mph off top end but will turn the bike in to a fast accelerating wheelie machine :D

Renthall sprocket carrier, go up 2 teeth on the sprocket to fit the carrier, 45mm cans, choose your own make, personaly I have Titanium Leo Vinci's on mine, but there are plenty to choose from & an F.I.M. chip to sort it all out, as for filters stick to standard or get pipercross replacement filters fo you original ones. A power commander is expensive but if the money is there go for it.
The next mods would be suspension, standard supension, set up right, is good, throwing money at an ohlins or equivelent & a fork internal upgrade is expensive but will give better results in the longrun.
Oh & YELLOW ones are FASTER;)

If you are buying the exhausts new get the Arrows, they are "E" marked with removeable baffle and sound great officer:D
I have a 40 tooth rear sprocket (748S) and its great fun, in an ideal world I would have an 853 conversion but Santa seems to have missed me out

unlikely with a 2000 spec model
I have a 14/40 sprocket set up, which I recommend - £220 inc new chain, sprockets and quick release carrier.
Open pipes and chip.
Open air tubes with velocity stack filter.
Next for me is 853 pistons in summer but this will depend on your budget.

I would go one more and fit a 41 tooth rear.
Top end suffers more but how often do you really want to go above 140 ?
I find this the best way to stop you doing it with more fun in between !

Ive got a few sets of 50mm termis if you can find the header pipes off another bike...get it breathing like a goodun !! Also got some brand new ducati performance chips for the 748 (£20) which will help with open cans..
Think its only the earlier bikes where you can completely remove the flywheel..?
Cheers

do the 853 option, i did and its ace, not cheap but worth the money, by the time i add a power commander it will be making more than a 916 of the same age. then run 14/41 sprockets and you'll be laughing your ass off
would a power commander be a better option over a fim ultimap chip ???

the fim chip is also adjustable by ignition so small gains can be found over the pc3. however there are only a couple people with the ultimap software to adjust them. dynojet have released there ignition box to be connected to the pc3 to map ignition and raise the rev limit its around 200 quid and i will be testing it next month.

hiya chris, good xmas ???
got me self a pc111usb off ebay for £60 so that answers my own question as i remember you saying it was easier to refuel a pc111 if i can afford to get you to do anymore engine work that is.
where would you recommend to take the 853 to,to get the pc111 set up properly ??

£60!!! Sounds like a bargain!! Think i paid bout £100 for mine in the summer of ebay! :(
yeah i was gobsmacked
it was buy it now for £125 with the highest bid option so i bid £60 and forgot about it until i got the congratulations youve won email, ideal. best late xmas present i could have got
I will have a sigma prepared ( Full Monty!!) 853 lump for sale real soon.
Including sigma prepared throttle bodies and the ecu including the 853 ultimap chip.
As I have moved up to 996sps power, I dont see the reason for the 853 to be gathering dust in the workshop.
Will be posted in the for sale section, later in the new year.;)
DC.:burn:
DC your a bad man, whats so special about the throttle bodies and how much for them separately ??? just curious for the minute
The throttle bodies have been set up properly, thats all. Nothing flash.
I will probably sell them with the engine so that it all runs sweet together. Including the ultimap chip with ecu.
DC.
spoil sport, how much diffence did it make to the bike mate?? anything for a bit of extra power
I wouldnt say that it increased horse power or anything like that. Just made the throttle response really nice.
In conjunction with the 853 ultimap fuel chip, the bike ran real smooth and responsive. No stutters, back fires or popping. Just creamy revy V twin power.
This in addition to a well set up squish, dialed in cams. Spot on valve clearances and a little head work. Made for a big grin factor.
DC.:)
Once the 996sps is up a running i will get it set up with a FIM chip if possible.;)

Get a 748R and take it to 853 with RS spec porting. That should be good for about 125bhp. That will be fun. :bouncy:
