View Full Version : 2002 998bp top speed?
what would you expect to get from a 2002 998bp? had mine flatout and only got 145mph (on a private road ofcourse:cool: )
i got more out of my 748 so i'm begining to think all is not right with it! althought it feels ok just lack of topend. it's totally standard as far as i know! just thinking i haven't checked the gearing yet, what is standard gearing for it?
cheers,
joe

Can't remember what size the std rear sprocket is but I had an indicated 157 with a 15 front and 154 with a 14 front sprocket, I'd expect someone with a bit lower "drag coefficient" (ahem!) to get more :biaggi:
Send a U2U to Skidlids, he'll know what the standard gearing is ;)
cheers mate, will do.
i'm not to areodynmaic(spelling?) myself.....being 6'1 and 15 1/2 stone lol maybe thats the problem! should lay of the burger kings for a while:frog:
Get a 14tooth front sprocket on it , it takes ages to get anywere near top speed on std gearing ,the smaller sprocket takes a few mph off but it gets there before runing outa road (private):D

I will check my gearing but I know mine gets to 150mph very rapidly, not on a private road but they allow these sort of speeds in the IOM, probably go faster than that if held flat for the mountain mile with no traffic.
Mainly standard in the engine department except for full 50mm exhaust, got a PC111 USB but haven't fitted it yet as bike is laid up for the winter.

Would have thought you'd see 155mph eventually. Most have had the 15 tooth front sprocket swapped for the 14 tooth sprocket which will effect top speed. Other thing is that your comparing it to your 748 top speed, who says the speedo was accurate on the 748 :puzzled:
How fast does it go around corners? You managed to do a corner at 150mph yet?:D
goes fast fast enough round corners andy......if i wanted top end i would have kept the fireblade..........187mph:o......who uses that on the road??
just wanted to know what it would do!
didn't say it was accurate, are u saying the 748 speedo isn't but the 998 speedo is accurate??:puzzled: good luck with the new bike btw get sum pics up
got a 14 tooth front on order trevor, should be here next week.
thanks for the replys guys
Dont forget to check the ride height before and after ,if you need the gauge let me know or give me a shout when the sprocket is here and call down and i will help :D
I saw 160 on the clocks of Bob down the back straight at Donny before hitting the brakes for the esses

Doesn't Bob have a 998S enine and therefore a bit more power than a 998BP
Yeah he's an S but he was still pulling strong, I even saw 175 on my old 996Bp on a private road many years ago with a bit of regearing, would think a 998Bp would have more poke that a 996Bp though
if i wanted top end i would have kept the fireblade..........187mph......who uses that on the road??
just wanted to know what it would do!
Why then?
look at moto gp how often is the fastest bike through the trap the winner?
exactly andy......i'm agreeing with u mate. was just curious as to what topend speed i would lose against my mates jap fours. when i had the 748 very few of my mates could stay with it on the right track/road, i'm no joey dunlop but that was the way it was. it's about handleing corner speed and confidence......for me anyway. the blade was to fast and quite often headed for the hedges.....not very confidence inspiring!!
cheers for the offer trevor.....might take u up on that mate
i have seen a indicated 160 on my 853 with a 14/37 set up. my speedo is fairly accurate as i was doing a indicated 39mph and my mates 05 r1 was showing the same on his lcd clocks.
at the end of the day its not the top speed that counts it s how quick you get it there in my eyes
