Ive got a mate who has a '98 ST2 and his alternator has packed up. Anyway says he's been quoted £500 by Ducati for a replacement due to some change in how they now supply the part :o

He's bidding for one on fleebay and I offered to put a post on the board on his behalf to see if anyone has any other suggestions or possibly know where else he can try?

Cheers. :bouncy:

Check out the adverts in the electrical section of motorclycle mags or MCN. There are lots of Companies that can rewind alternators. Certainly cheaper than new though a 2nd hand one would probably be cheaper.

we just paid £125 to have a tractor alternator re-wound at Stonehenge services Salisbury, i think it took about a week but they do anything.

Thanks for the advice sounds like the 2nd hand option will be cheaper although not by much. I suppose the trouble with a second hand one will be there's no guarantee how long it will last... :puzzled:

You need to be careful that it actually is a '98 model. It may have been registered in '98 but could it be an earlier bike?

The reason for this is that I read somewhere on an ST site that for the 97 model year only Ducati had a 400w single phase alternator which is not compatible with anything else

Make sure it is actually the alternator and not the standard fried connector problem before you shell out loads of cash.

Thanks again for the advice etc, Ive spoke to him last night and he's now bought one off ebay new for £65 which sounds like a good deal - just hope its the right one! :puzzled:
