My back wheel has some nasty scratches where a foreign object has passed through and hit the spokes. I cant afford to be without it so I wondered what was the possibility of finding a mint wheel that next time I need a back tyre they could be swapped. Its grey

Hmmm, buying used wheels sound a little risky....may just simply be a swap for better wheels, or it may be parts from a stolen bike or worse.
Buyer beware

Also, with all the stolen bikes I see discussed here, I am a little surprised that buying parts on the net is not approached a little more gingerly..

The rear wheels are the same as used on the Monster S4S.
I brought one a while back off of ebay for around 200 quid including sprocket carrier.
FYI a new wheel from ducati without disc or sprocket carrier is about 500 quid !! :rolleye:

Once you get the wheel stick it in the bike without a tyre on it and spin it so you can check run-out, and see if it has any flat spots. This is the easiest way to quickly check its condition.

Mine was perfect.

Cheers,
John.

Ah.... you have an ST4 then with 3 spoke wheels....
In that case a late Monster 900 / 1000 900ssie etc will be the one you need - the 4S has 5 spoke Marchesinis

There's a couple on ebay at the mo for around the £100 mark which looking at the year they're from should be the right colour grey...
