does a renthal rear sprocket for the 748-996 fit 749-999?

I bought a 40 tooth rear sprocket to fit my 04 749S.
This was a daft move as you need a longer than standard chain with that size of sprocket. The slots in the swing arm arent quite long enough to accomodate the larger circumference of the sprocket.
Ive since fitted a 39 tooth gold alloy renthal and this will slightly lower the gearing (which hopefully make it a bit easier round town) and I didnt need to change the chain. Fitting a lrger rear sprocket lowers the gearing which reduces top speed but gives better acceleration.
Looks trick and is considerably lighter than the standard item.

D, if you go with a 14/39 setup you will increase top end not in gear umph!
749s standard steup is 13/39 so if you go with 14 up front then this makes final drive higher so increases top speed.
Its recommend you dont go any lower than 13 at the front so the only thing is to go up at the back.
I fitted a 41 tooth Renthal on my '03 749s with standard chain and it fits fine, i can now even use 3rd gear below 30mph!!
Any more than 41 and i would recommend a new, longer, chain though as to reduce the wheel base by too much will make the bike twitchy, altho with 41 i would say the reduction makes it turn a little quicker!

There is NO ducati that has a 13 tooth front sprocket as std..in fact you would be hard pushed to obtain a sprocket....and then ill advised to use one!

andyb, you are, of course, correct! my mistake, its actually 14 up front 39 rear....surely we're all allowed one cock up? :D

I think the 749r comes with a 15 tooth front sprocket, so, a simple boost is to fit the 14 tooth sprocket from the 749s.
Equates to 3 additional teeth on the back sprocket = wheelies
