Anyone else watching this? Best thing on TV for a very long time in my humble opinion.
It's brilliant. It's one of the few programs I turn the tv on for these days...that and the re-runs of Auf Wiedersehen Pet on men & Motors. :)
happy memories of the seventies and the best TV by far at present

Think it's great - I used to have an old Cortina like that - only it was green :barfy: I swear I recognise some of that wallpaper and the old Decca Tele's from my early childhood memories :lol:

Superb viewing! It helps if you are of a certain age. That box of Kleenex tissues brought it all back to me as they always seemed to an identical box in the back of my Dads car! Also how clean people kept the street outside their houses. As a kid I remember how the women of the houses in the terraced steet where I grew up were always cleaning their doorsteps and sweeping the pavement outside their own houses, it was as if they were in competition with each other!
By the way John Simm was a few years below me at my school.
Also does anyone remember how the housewives of the time used to 'white' the edge of their doorstep? What was all that about?
There was a good bit in last weeks episode with the white dog muck, was only having a conversation with a mate about it at xmas. Whatever happened to that? Also Curley whirley chocolate bars, I remember the day they first hit the shops as there was an Italian boy called Tito that lived at the bottom of our street that managed to get one before any of us had even seen one. All the kids on the street queued up as Tito stood on his back yard step giving select kids a first taste of Curley Whirley.
Aah memories!

70s pushbikes I remember well, The progression through the various Raleigh models. I think you started with the 'Chipper' then you went onto a 'Tomahawk' before progressing to a 'Chopper' if you were lucky. I never made it to the Chopper as a dodgy bloke opened a bicycle shop nearby selling nothing but really badly made cheap nasty eastern European bicycles that fell about in no time. He closed the shop within months after he sold all the rubbish he had and all the local kids had bikes that fell apart and you could not get bits for.
I recall a spoilt kid that lived nearby that had a bike called a 'Dragster' anyone remember them? Was yellow and had a large car style gear lever centrally mounted. Will look on ebay!

Also the scrap metal bloke pushing the cart. As a kid once a week you would hear him come by calling Rag and bone over and over.
Really got me reminiscing now, that and I just wanted to get to 500 posts before I go to bed.

Speaking of old shows, I don't know if this was shown some time ago, but the Discovery Channel here in Japan just did the 10 best motorcycles ever show (with Nipponese subtitles of course) and a buddy just gave me the DVD he made. This is the one with the 916 as the second best ever and the Honda Cub taking first (no doubt because it survived a 22 meter fall of a building and started). Jay Leno talking about melting the front fascia of the car behind him with the Y2K was precious.....no Kleenex boxes though.

Not too sure where this programme is going, but the snippets of music last night hawkwind's Silver Machine and the Stones Wild Horses...quality.
The acting is great especially Philip Glenister as DCI Hunt, he's straight out of The Sweeney, punch first statement later if needed!
Hard drinking, smoking, womaniser made a good cop in the 70's;)
Well funny the way he described the villain last night who batted for the other side!

Only eight episodes in this series but there is certainly going to be at least one more.
I also had a Mk3 Cortina. Mine was black. I think it cost £90 from the auctions. I used to drive to school in it!
Didn't life look a whole lot simpler in those days!!

great show - not taking itself toooo seriously - i remember a hand puppet which was a lamb and i think a woman called shari lewis ?????? was the voice/puppeteer - she had an american accent. what about last week with the little girl off the test pattern!! always thought she was spooky then.

Yep , me too I had a red Mark 3, one of my mates gave it to me because he put oil in the rad and it wouldn't start!!
Bits of rust used to fall off! the meshing around the gear kbow had withered away and you could look down and see the road as you went along:o

If the puppet was a sheep it was likely to be Lamb Chop with Shari Lewis's hand up it's bum.

I put that down to my slow /rapid descent into the world of Stella.
Lamb chop lady wasn't she had up for some misdeamour some years later? or probably just me thinking that thwe innocent should always get it :lol:
I'm pleased (in a strange way) that a tv programme with not a lot to it has created such an interest in the mid 1070's

The 70's, a guaranteed ice breaker in the coldest of conversations. The sweets of the decade was a topic on it's own.when a snickers was a marathon and when a bounty had a cardboard tray. What happend to the red dark chocolate 1?. Proper ring pulls on tins of pop, that you could flick at people. Good stuff

Didn't have one of those but i did have a spud gun! And we used to make pea shooters out of biros and bits of chewed up paper.
Used to make airfix model tanks and shoot them with the airgun. I used to fill the planes with lighter fluid and then set fire to it to make it look like they had crashed. Didn't work, just end up with a lump of melted goo!

Spud guns! Went to bed last night thinking about all things from 1970s and remembered running round the back street with a potato in one hand and my spud gun in the other. Still got it somewhere I thinks its called a 'Spudomatic' or something similar.
