In the quest to obtain more oomph from the bike I've been looking at a few options. Gearing now done. Not convinced by a lighter flywheel and can't really afford mag wheels just now. So thought about a pair of 54mm end cans. Then saw this on ebay. The system has done 3800 miles. Although not in great condition that does not really bother me.
With a Power commander seems like a good mod.

Have you had the cams dialled and all other standard stuff optimised, e.g. TPS, injectors balanced, valve clearances etc.

Maybe get rid of the air intake mesh?

Certainly worth doing to make sure you are getting the best from what you have before you put a power commander on.

Not so sure about bolting a bigger diameter system on, you might lose some low or mid range torque/power or maybe not. if it was me I would want to be sure with a before and after dyno run on the same dyno.

Ray.

Condition does not look that bad, it's amazing what some metal polish and scotch bright will clean up. If they are proper Termig's and not some other brand with Termig stickers I'd say go for it. Price looks OK to me. May be see if he will do a deal between the auction price of £250 and Buy it now £450 to finish the auction early .... what's the worst he can say, NO ;)

See if he will go for £350 ... as long as the cans are in good condition they will always be worth £350. If you get them for any less your

Thanks. Intake mesh is off. New piper dross air filters on.

Presumably cams, valve clearance injectors, etc are workshop activities?

If we take that argument further then anyone who owns one of the sports range of Ducati's shouldn't ride it and we should all be on C90's!

As couch says, need and want are two different things and if you want more power - GO FOR IT!

I don't need all the power the 998R gives me but you should have heard me laughing in my helmet when I'd get into the power out of the hairpin onto the start finish straight at Jerez - the front wheel would come up and the bike would just take off. I don't need that power but by god it brings a smile to your face when you crack the throttle open!

:D

The picture in my avatar was taken at that weekend, the only shot I've got with both wheels off the ground over the mountain - it was the last race when I finally cracked into the points - all 2 of them!!! A glorious 14th place!

I e-mailed the people who put the show together after the race and told them I was the first Ducati to compete in Minitwins etc etc so in the full show for that round they mentioned me by name and showed a little bit more of me but didn't mention I was on the Ducati. I guess they had to drop all that for the season wrap up show. Oh well. I have that show on tape though.

I was pretty stoked though :D

Power, more is good, too much is better.

maybe going for a big dollop of power high up the rev ranges isn't a good idea unless it floats ya boat but there are some things you can do to make the low to mid range a whole lot better. IMHO for the road and to a certain extent the track mid range is more important than outright power.

Mid range makes the bike more enjoyable to ride on the road, no need to do a river dance on the gear lever, and gives good punch out of corners on the track, where a talentless goon like me has slowed down so much I need to catch up on the straights!

Cam dialling, TPS etc are the sort of things that can be dome as aper of a service in yer dealer or chosen specialist, some might do some as part of the service,

Ray
