There is one of these in my local bike shop it's on an 04 plate twin discs and it's silver can't find it anywhere on the official ducati site and to be honest i didn't know they made an 800 SS i thought they just did the 750 900 and the 1000

any info gratefully recieved

It was only made for two years (03, 04). I believe it's essentially the same spec as the 1000 in terms of suspenders and brakes etc just with the smaller engine.

Oh and Ducati seem to have changed the website so the link to previous model years has gone?

I have the links and they still work. Will post them up later.

The 800ss actually came in two variants for 03: 800 Sport and 800SS.

The 800SS had an aluminium swinging arm, a better spec Sachs shock with position sensitive damping, fully adjustable Showa forks, better spec front brake and clutch master cyclinders a la 748 type and 5-spoke alloy Marchesinis.

The Sport was lower rent with a steel swinging arm as per the 620 Sport, non-adjustable Marzocchi forks, a lower-spec Sachs shock and 3 spoke wheels. The engine was the same as the 800ss

For 2004-2005 the SS and Sport designation was dropped to become just an SS. Sadly, the SS adopted the Sport's lower specification :(

The best of the bunch is the 03 SS.

I have an 03 SS and an 04 Sport. Ducati being Ducati saw fit to equip my SS with a Showa shock though. My Sport has now migrated to SS spec and has all the nice bits including wheels and fully floating cast iron Brembo discs.

Just the job for Minitwins racing. :burn:

I forgot to add that the 800 has a stonkingly good engine that is easily tweaked. It is a much better engine than the 750ss with revised heads, cam timing, a six-speed box etc. I posted the dyno charts for mine in the SS section - have a look - it will match a std 900ssie.

I've got to hand it to you - you're persistent if nothing else. ;)

Btw...I have a rather large tub of titanium bits ready to go on the race bike. Yum. However, before then the frame is off to get tweaked.

this one has 800sport on the side now i've had a chance to look at it again.

what sort of bhp is it putting out ??

Nigel - the 800's as Twpd says, were only made for a short while - as also the 750ie's too (which were only available here for 9 months from Nov 01 to end July 02)

Ducati just carried on using the 750ie engines, but they were given bigger bores.

window shopping ! not quite ready to flash the cash yet just looking at the options , I'm not quite sold on the styling of the ss models yet.
S2R1000 looks nice but i saw today a ZX10 05 model only 500mls on the clock for less than £5995 a whole grand cheaper than the S2 .

I looked at it late last year, its in very clean condition, and looks as if it has just sat around for most of its short life. It'll need new tyres they feel so hard already. And they were asking absolute top money then so I didnt go any further.

They're a fair bit different. They weren't bored out - they were given longer strokes and hence different cranks. The 800 is/was a new engine. The 750's seem to deliver about 62-64bhp. My 800 is giving 77bhp without any pipes or filter mods yet so, I doubt that much extra comes from just 50cc. I'm looking forward to adding the performance bits - I have a feeling I can get 82-83bhp without much effort.

That's right - a stroked 750 !
It bucks the modern trend completely, but is in best ducati tradition.
It has the same valve size as the 900, and I believe the cnc machining on the ports is up to latest stanrads too, and with a much more modern cam design, with less overlap and higher lift so you get good mid-range _and_ good top end.
And its lighter then the 900 engine too.
Hmmm, perhaps I should fit one in the beast :eureka:

Thats the one! I thought £5995 was a good price seeing as they retailed new at over £8000 i'm really tempted but it depends on the px on my present bike i need to know how much cash i need to pay up minus the px value

I paid £3500 for my 2000 mile example from Ducati Leeds. They wanted quite a bit more than that but, I drove a hard bargain. In fact - looking at the spanking condition of it I reckon I got something of a bargain. :bouncy:

This is what they are advertising it for now ... and I think thats what it was when I looked at it.
