Rear wheel spindle torque...

what sort of torque setting should I be using for the rear spindle? I only ask, because when I did the sprocket carrier bearing, the bike was on a paddock stand and when I nipped up the back end, the rear wheel went really tight and I could hardly move it with my hands... have I put the stuff back in the wrong way? is there an exploded diagram of the rear wheel setup?

Paul,

You've put something back together wrong. When you tighten the spindle the load should be taken on the bearing inners and bearing spacers. The bearings themselves shouldn't be loaded no matter how much you tighten the spindle nuts. Here is a picture from the parts list, it's not very clear but it might help.

There is a conical spacer, I think it must be part 25 on the pic Derek posted that will cause the wheel to be tight if you have it in the wrong way round.

Apart from the Haynes, I've never found a specific manual for the 600ss - I think youve downloaded a manual for the 750/900 from here:

Rear axle torque for my 900ss - 52 to 56 lbf/ft

If you have a tapered spacer it apparently needs to be fitted with the angled side facing in towards the wheel centre.

ps - was it you that changed the rear wheel bearings??? If so and you still have probs, it might be that the bearing are not seated properly in some way.
