View Full Version : ASSEN - Have you sorted your travel?
So, now that things are a bit more confirmed and that, I thought I better find out how I'm getting there.
As it turns out, we (me and him) may be in a postion to actually help somebody out if you're struggling to sort transport out.
Here's the deal...
1. Me and him go over in the motorhome, with no room for anyone else.
2. Me and him go over in the motorhome towing a trailer with room for one extra bike.
3. Chass goes in the motorhome, and I follow in his van with room for one extra bike, and 2 extra people.
4. I take the Lear jet and you can sort yourselves out.
As option 4 is unlikely, is anyone interested in options 2 or 3? or do me and him go with option 1?
Oh, it looks like we'll be going on the Thursday, as I'm planning on doing the trackday on the Friday.
Anyone???

talk about it all you like Gents. the odds of seeing me on a race bike of any description EVER is highly unlikley.
I did offer my serivces this season to someone in need, but that's no longer the case.
pointless discussion.
if you want to race me, bring your bikes to CAdwell... i'll race anyone
(i'm kidding Monty :p )

not even remotely like that Dom.
i could race for 5 years and not do any better than i did when i raced, i'm happy with my past and what i did or didn't acomplish. I laid rest to my Keevil Ghosts and won a trophy...
Life moves on, people have different priorities, mine is now my fiancee and my friends. Finances are spent on my road bike and sorting out a wedding and a new home for me and her and then in the future the little Baby Weeksy's that will be running round.
i wasn't trying to come over as high and mighty with that post, i moved on its that simple mate.

I'm no longer going to Cadwell. But as it's a 1 race round and as I don't expect to crash this year, I think that nice red scooter can still be mine.

It looks to be around double the price to go from Harwich to the Hook, compared to Dover-Calais.
Whether it will cost more or less by the time you've done all the driving.
It's 250kms from Hoek van Holland - Assen (2hr 30m)*
It's 500kms from Calais - Assen (4hr 45m)*
*from www.viamichelin.com
The advantage of going Dover-Calais is that the sailing times are about every hour and a half, whereas the Harwich-Hoek sails 4 times a day (the latest on Sunday is too early, so then you're looking at an overnighter, or sailing Monday) Plus it's a shed load longer on a nasty boat.
H-H was £220 roughly
D-C was £110 roughly SEAFRANCE
D-C was £60 + £10 fuel charge!!! with P&O (why not call it £70?)
Whether its gunna cost £110 - £160 extra in fuel is doubtful (500kms = 20 gallons @ £3 gallon???) dunno what's a gallon of juice in Europe? it's about £4.20 here.
P&O quote thingy, based on a 6.5 metre motorhome...

OK, thinking out aloud...
...it looks like an extra £50 to take the trailer (for option 2) or an extra £60 to take the van (for option 3) plus a shed load fo fuel...
...Chass, what do you think about it all, coz it be your vehicles?
I'm thinking at most we want to take the trailer, with Max's bike, otherwise its all gunna cost a silly fortune with 2 vehicles.

Rough times used just to give you an idea.
For a motorcycle and rider to sail on Friday morning 9.15am and come home Sunday @ 9.00pm...
http://www.domweb.co.uk/avatars/po_pj.jpg
...you need to add £10 fuel tax to that too (bloody rip off).
Not sure if there are further hidden costs, as I can't find out without booking - which I can't do just yet.
Have a look at http://www.poferries.com
If you do a google search for "dover calais" you'll get a few well known companies come up.

Sounds pretty reasonable (apart from the fool tax) was thinking of taking the missus on the back and stopping over for a few days touring in Holland afterwards, I hear they have some great mountain passes near the coast !!
Anybody else riding over to watch ???
