Everthings sorted now just got to agree a price now. I'm after a new 748s, price of £8700 dealer won't budge on it.
I'm hoping to get the alarm or a hugger thrown in but not likely.
Anyone got any idea what I sholud expect to get/not expect to get ?
Looking forward to riding it.
Thanks

Is this a brand new bike?
If second hand, shop around mate, at that price you should get a pristine 748R and could even fetch some very serious stuff like 996S or SPS.
You can also ask the dealer to give you a first service free of charge. It does mean cash out for them and it saves you the expense of £150 or so after your first 1,000 miles.
Cheers

Have to say 8700 seems a bit steep especially if they're not giving you anything extra, surely a 748R isnt much more money? They were going for 9200 at onyerbike last year

It's A new 2002 748s in Ti-grey with red wheels. He says as they are no longer being made they will go quick etc.
Might try the free first service route as well.
Thanks

not sure what the std tyres are on a 748s, but if they are the same as i had on my 998, Pirelli Corsa's, i would ask them to upgrade them to Supercorsa's or 207rr's.
Shouldn't cost him much but will save you £200 once you realise how crap the std tyres can be.

If it's a 2002 model bike then it's not new ... so you shouldn't be paying a new price!
Check MCN for second hand prices of 2002 model 748S bikes and do an "in-the-middle" guess and that should be about right.
Other than that ... go for an R !!

Is it pre-registered?
If so, you're in a good position to get a deal.

Its not pre-registered as the one they have in is sold, they said theres about 3-4 left back in the ware house.
I think they see it as they will sell what ever, now they have stopped making them.
So charge full list.

As others have said, there will be a good few deals on 748R's so why go for the lesser spec bike?
If you are not desperate to buy this minute the winter always unearths some bargain deals.
And there are a couple of secondhand R's in market place if you look back a bit?

Totally agree with the others walk away and tell the dealer what you expect to pay for the deal and that you are talking to other ducati dealers. Even show him the prices from other dealers and trade them off against each other. Leave a contact number and wait for him to get back to you.
I find that most dealers will give you plenty of extras like tyres, huggers and free servicing rather than do a deal on price.
sounds a lot of dosh for a 748s as others have said there are better deals around and with winter around the corner is it worth rushing into, good luck anyway.:)

P&H Motorcycles (http://www.phmotorcycles.co.uk/IntroDucati_fra.html) have an '03 registered 0 miles 748S for £7995.
Don't forget that all bikes get a 3 year warranty from new, so even buying second hand gives you the same guarantee as a new bike...

You sure about that antonye?
Thought it was 2 years?

As everybody is saying - seems pricey and I am not sure about the "value" or "collectability" of the grey bike either.
And well let's face it, you would greatly miss out on the greatest unsolved debate of Ducati Ownership, ie. better in Red or Yellow?

CBR600 is a great bike ... as a reference to how much better Ducatis are!!
RedSPS bike is something special. It is not the latest, shiniest Duke indeed but it is a legend & some piece of exotica like all SP / SPS / R bikes.
Only thing though, if you have not been biking for long, you will scare yourself sh**less for a month on an SPS! Those bike really go some!!
list price sounds expensive fella - and its an 02 model - on the flip side i bet the dealer wouldn't offer you more for it as a trade in just cos its grey/black, look around there are better deals to be had unless you are so struck on the colour you consider it to be viable value

Grey ones look a bit tatty after a few years as well. They go kind of shiny when you polish them unless you are super careful.
Paul.
Think there was a grey one in the market section of MCN last week.
Basically ditto with everyone on price - too expensive.
Good advice from Bluebell - take a 748 and a 600RR for a test ride. Buy the one that leaves you with the biggest grin! ;)

I've been following this thread and I've stuck my 2p worth of advice in as well BUT I just wanted to say "don't let us put you off!"
We're all giving you our opinions with great hindsight, but if you really want a grey 748S and you're happy to pay the full price for it, then go for it!
I really wouldn't want to think that I'd put you off getting the bike you really wanted, and you ended up hating/regretting your purchase.
Owning a Ducati is abuot so much more than which bike you have, and the purchasing of the bike is only the start ... trust me when I say you'll soon be spending your hard earned cash on all the goodies to go with it!
Whatever you choose, don't forget to bring it along to your local DSC meeting and say hello to everyone!
Good luck!

Thanks for Replying antonye,
I still like the 748s in grey, but am put off by what my dealer is offering, as he dosen't seem to want to give anything in with deal even paying full list.
Gonna go to Fowlers soon and see wahat they offer on a similar priced bike for comparison.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks

Went to Fowlers and got £500 more for p/x. He had the little book they use, the same one the guy used at Ducati dealer.
This was on a £7000 cbr600rr. £500 less on a £8700 748s.
Thinking of the standard 748 now not much different apart from wheels/colour other changes wouldn't affect me much.
Going for a test ride on Sat.
So lets pray for no rain!

In my opinion ... stick with the S model if you can.
It has slightly better toys than the standard Bip and the lighter (5-spoke) wheels really do make a difference, as well as the Showa forks and shock.
My preference would still be for a year-old R model, as you're really getting the same age bike, but that's your choice!
How about one of these?

Hi, Antonye
Really want a new one, and insurance on the S is steep enough.
Will see what I can get into the deal, just seen in MCN that Onyerbike are doing them for £8500, so will ask if they will match that.
Will also aee if they have the S in yellow/red.
Pray for no rain!

Not much difference between that '03 reg and a new bike - it's only just done one tankful of petrol at 147 miles and it's still not run in!
It will be a maximum of six months old too, but you'd be saving £1500 quid which would cover your insurance and a nice set of leathers as well!
Here's the pic (if it works this time)

Lee,
Sounds like you're in a similair situation to me. (I posted a thread here (http://ducatisportingclub.com/control/boards/viewthread.php?tid=2905)). I love the grey 748s, looks fantastic IMO.
£8700 - was this from Daytona bike shop in Islington? That's the price they quoted to me. I think Taz have them down for £8195. I called them to ask for details and they said it was not an official UK spec one (the one at Daytona was) but it can be PDI'd at an official Ducati dealership, for about £37, which would then give it the official 2 yr Ducati UK warranty. They told me it was basically the same bike but just needed clocks and headlight changing to suit, which they would do.
The only stumbling block I have before I can get my Ducati is that it HAS to be garaged to get insurance cover on it (unsurprisingly). I don't have one and need to get one of those metal bike sheds to get round this as I live in a flat. The problem is the decent metal garages are about £1300! :o e.g. - secure-a-bike (http://www.secure-a-bike.com/pages/frame.html )
Hope the test ride helps... you're lucky to find somewhere that has one available to test. I haven't found anywhere that's got one myself. :(
Good luck with it and post something when you've got an update. :)

Put down a deposit on a grey 748s mono this morning at Riders of Bristol.
Had the test ride on a grey biposto and on the way back had a go on his 749s with a carbon termignoni can.
Still liked the 748s more. Got a good p/x price and the Meta 357t thrown in to.
Colin I still payed full list but got good p/x and the alarm. Would not really want to buy parallel, can't see many official dealers being happy to pdi it either. worth a try though good luck anyway Colin.
Lee1980, now waiting to pick it up, thanks for all your input along the way guys.

Nice one!
Glad you got what you wanted and that (hopefully!) we persuaded you to haggle and get a bit more thrown in. You certainly got a better deal than you started out with.
Don't forget to bring it along to your local meeting and take some piccies for the Photos section.

Hi Antonye,
Got what I expected to get the first time I went up there. The salemans man on Saturday was totally different to the first one.
He gave me £500 less for my p/x and no extras like the alarm. Second guy is all happy and really wants my bike gives me top price and the alarm.
Weird, anyway now just got to sort insurance out by the end of the week and hopefully pick it up on Fri/Sat.
Lets hope the weather stays the same.
Thanks

My younger brother bought the grey 748s from JHP, He had JHP have the wheels painted yellow before he picked it up.
You might think arghhhhhhhh at first like me, but it realy does look good.
As for the 2002 model, unlike jap bikes that change every year, dukes don't. Well not much. I don't even think tthey made any 748's in 2003. Mores the pity.
And remember when you come to sell you bike, if the dealers been giving discounts galore, don't expect much in way of p/x.
I would rather have a dealer hold to the price and protect the p/x value.
Stand back and wait for the stampead !

Daytona (Kawasaki) Ruislip, Middx (01895-675511) have a 2 grey 748S's inthe showroom. A bip and a mono.
I bought my 999s there. Talk to Chris, you could get a good deal, I did.
They are both marked up at £8700.
