What rear tire size??? (170 or 180)

My bike is a 2000 900SSie.:puzzled:

Use a 180 if you have a 5.5" rim - it's the optimum size for that rim. I can only think Ducati put a 170 on to cut costs - every 170 I have seen on thes bikes weas strangely and goes quite square very quickly. The 180 on my 800 seems to work well.
