Recently saw an ad for a product called Onspeed which "claims" to improve broadband and dial-up speeds. They claim to have increased a 1Mb connection to 5Mb using "advanced compression technology".

As it's only 20 quid or so a year, I thought it would be worth a go, but can this really work, and if so why aren't ISP using the technology?

Comments anyone?

I think I saw some write up in PC Pro that evaluated it - they came to the conclusion that it worked reasonably well for some sites and lower speed connections. I can't see it really being an issue if you have a 1MB/s connection - most of the delays will be down to other web servers.

Is it one of those things that just caches your most frequently visited web sites?

Sounds like snake oil to me!

I had it on trial offer Yeti. I can't say that I noticed a great difference. It was quicker but by how much is still not a lot when you're on dial up
