Does antone know how to tell the ST4s engine from the plain 4? I am looking around for a 4s engine and by the time I get to the breakers I am sure they'll tell me anything they want. Did the engine numbers change or have they have a particular identifying clue in the number?

Thanks, Rob

Rob

The engine no should read ZDM996W4B -------

The engine itself is painted a light grey colour instead of the dark colour on the St4 and ST2. The capacity is also usually stamped on the crank cases somewhere.

How did you get on with CMC Andy?

Paul.

Andy,

Thanks for your engine model designation response. I'm going to have a look at a motor on Weds and was wondering if you know what the other (st2, st4) engine type codes are.

Thanks, Rob

Rob:-

Here is a really good source of info for the ST2 / 4 / (some) 4s stuff - it may be worth looking at...

Sorry Rob, sold the ST2 so I don't have an engine to look at! Wouldn't be too suprised if they had 944 / 916 in the number though.

Paul- the hiccup is now in the process of being sorted to my satisfaction after a few more "exchanges of diametrically opposed viewpoints" and I didn't have to shout either! ;)

Good Andy. I've had dealings with CMC in the past. I got my ST4 from them in Chesterfield. Wouldnt go back in a hurry!

Fatduke - I don't think Perry would like you calling him a Yank - he's Australian!

Have you tried GB Motorcycles in Pontypridd ? They have been breaking one or two ST and ST4s over the past few months.

FD - Perry Rosenboom is the owner of the bike gizmos site & he put together the FAQ!

My engine is a ZDM 996 W4B ******

I have read elsewhere that the letter in the position W above tells you the year and W means 1998. ST4s in 1998, hmmm, not too sure that's right.

Anyone know better?

Thanks,

Rob

Rob - mines ZDM 996 W4B and it'sa 2001 bike.

A W in that position in a FRAME number would indeed be a 98 bike......

Engine no's are different. ;)

Panic over I hope!

Cheers

Andy

Andy,

Thanks for that, I am asuming my engine is from a 01 or 02 bike as I bought it last year and it looked used engough not to have been later than March 03.
