View Full Version : An early retirement

Arse.

No bone growth at all on my collarbone means no racing. Just had an x-ray today and the plates bent, pins pulling out, hurting like crap.....

I'm going to need to go under the knife again before it'll start to heal, then there'll be another 4-6 months recovery, so my season ends here.

I'm totally gutted, but it means that somebody else might have the chance to use the bike for a round or two. (Just picked it up from PDQ yesterday, making a healthy 63bhp).

Will of course be at as many rounds as I can get to.

Cheers,

Ali

Ali ,sorry to hear such dissapointing news. Some of your competitors may be smiling, but I think they would really be happier to see you mixing it on the grid. Im sure your presence in the paddock and grandstand will be just as well appreciated by all. Regards 4D

Good idea! I'll start with such classics as: "Don't fall off" "Fall gently" & "Stay on the black stuff". I'm sure that'll help!

Thanks for the kind words all. :D

It just isnt possible to say how crap that kind of news is.
I'm starting to feel so very lucky that my 4 lots of shoulder surgery and 2 lots of back surgery seem to have left me with so few problems. (Well for an old git anyway)
I cannot describe how scared I was that something would go wrong.
I just wish there was something I could do, but the best I can offer is a ride on my classic racers when your collarbone is healed.
And it *will* heal, its just that you are going to need some intensive treatment to make it happen, and they always have to try the slow approach before the intensive approach.

you'll obvioulsy still be very involved with the series and maybe a late season comeback? really would like to think so.

Bummer, what a tough break Ali :(
You were my target this season too... looks like I'll have to find someone else to aim for.

Wouldn't recommend kissing the Blarney stone tho - I've seen what the locals do to it :o

That's a bummer Ali but, it's better to rest up now and get fit properly rather than risk long-term damage. Live to fight another day, eh?

Get well.

Blimey Ali...how did you manage to race at Cadwell...BRAVE!

Looks like I came out the best of the "collar-bone mob"...what with Dave Reilly and you struggling with your recovery. May well be that I was under the knife and full of surgical stainless-steel within five days of breakage helped?

Well....as it has been said....REALLY bad news...both for you Ali, and for the DD series, as it seems to have lost its very own Ruben Xaus!

All the best for the op mate.

Ali, gutted for you mate.

Take it easy and don't rush the rehab and physio - you can race for plenty more years but there are 40+ non-racing weeks a year that you need a good arm for.

Best wishes from Paul & Kirsty

At least it means you will have fewer repair bills this season

I'm also assuming that you now will also be retiring from the BHCN 'Road Race' series as well?
