Take a look at the state of the mesh and you can see why the bike breathes and sounds better.
Even on a new bike the mesh is so fine that it restricts the amount of air that gets into the box.

........and there's only about 50% "hole" in the mesh on the 998! Gonna have to do something about the sewing machine sound!

I have fitted the JHP under tank filter to my 998s and the diference in sound is quite dramatic. I still have th grills in place on the nose fairing but would be interested to here peoples coments about removing them, I have 50mm carbon Termi`s fitted the the DP injection unit fitted - seems to ge very well indeed even with the grills in place.:o

I'm assuming that if you do remove the vents you must have some kind of uprated filter downstream somewhere?

The sound is so much better without the grills in place, i thought it sounded nice with just the filter (JHP undertank) but when i removed the vents it took on a totally different sound and road totally different.
Cheers Guys.
Paul we will start by removing the air restrictors first that will open up some sound especially under the tank, and then we go from there.

Got more than enough performance compared to my poor old 750ss, just want a bit more Duke-like sound instead of the singer deluxe sewing machine it currently imitates!

I removed my screens and then cut the openings back about 1 inch. Then I installed the pipercross OEM style air filter. Bike has great pick up on the highway when it comes to roll ons. I did replace the screen with a less restrictive material sold on another ducati forum. Looks great and let s the bike breath about 80% better. My bike was running abit rich before the mod and now it runs perfectly.
