I am looking to replace my chipped headlight and have seen a '99 996 light on ebay. Will this be a direct replacement for my '04 bike.
£250 from Snells with DSC discount.

What puzzles me is my 996 has two relays in the headlight that allows the Low beam to stay on when switching to High beam but my 998 only has one relay and it is either low beam on or high beam on.
Making my 996 far better for riding at night especially on unlit empty country roads (its also louder so scres off the wild life as I approach)
may have been added by some else.
I thought the idea of not having two lights on at once was to stop dim wit drivers pulling out on you as they think you are a car in the distance ?

my 00 748 had two lights when on full beam, 996 ony has one - can it be converted to run both?

There was a guy on Fleabay offering to repair them a week or so ago, new lenses.
Might be worth a search??
:puzzled:

Could you keep an eye out for the fleabay repairer, let me know if he re-appears.
Thanks

The later bikes (post1999?) have both lights on at once. They also have a higher power three phase alternator which can supply enough juice to power both at once.
It is not a good idea to convert an earlier bike to run on both lights because it will eventually flatten the battery.
