View Full Version : Best UK circuit and why ?

Debating with one of the lads and just told him to do Oulton as IMO it's the best track the UK has to offer bar none...
The sweeping down cascades, Island bend... Shell hairpin and then Druids and Deer leap....
Damn... it's sweet...
So what's yours and why ?

Cadwell......more than anyone could want in a circuit, both for riders and spectators !!!
Voted Cadwell but I've never been to Oulten, and I have a feeling it's going to be blinding. :D
Love donny too for Craner Curves, but when I run through the rest of the track the only corner that really stands out is Coppice.
I love Cadwell for so many reasons; that rush you get through Coppice, the bumps at Chris Curves, keeping it pinned through Gooseneck, the esses before the mountain, the mountain, the first Hall bend.... oh God it's good!
Take me home.......where I belong, sweet Cadwell, take me home..... :D

Hello
again voted Cadwell, was everything and more for a trackday with the DSC
But hope to expierence a few others. . .
Rockingham I enjoyed, but maybe sentimental reasons as this was my first trackday, and I will never forget how nervious I was, thanks to the guys winding me up.
regards
TopiToo
Croft...aside from being near my front door, I like it for the following reasons:
Awesomely fast in places
Technically challenging with a mixture of fast, medium speed and slow corners.....with some bumpy stuff thrown in.
Plenty of run off
Excellent grip
Decently long circuit
Decent paddock
Decent access road
Easy to get to
Nearby local amenities
I also like Pembrey very much for many of the same reasons except the 400 miles it takes to get there. Pembrey and Croft are pretty much top of the tree for me and suit my style of riding - I tend to do well at both
I love Brands GP but, the high costs of using it puts me off. Brands Indy not worth the cost, hassle or distance for a tiny lap.
Cadwell I like but, the Mountain circuit for me is too slow and too out of date these days - it was ok 30 years ago but, for modern bikes less so. They've made it safer that it was around Hall bends and the Old Hairpin but then ruined part of the whole circuit with the stupid chicane in it. :puzzled:
Lydden is a joke - too small and not enough run off.
Darley Moor is a disgrace - how they are allowed to race there is beyond me. Sheep, trees, wired fencing, massive trenches/holes in the tarmac, grass and earth banking and...... bollards by the side of the circuit :puzzled: Somebody must be smoking something.....
Non-existent facilities.
I refuse to race there ever again.

Cadwell for me too.
Did Oulton recently and found it a blast, but I somehow prefer Cadders. Donnington next for me, although I do like Silverstone GP and its not on your list? I bet the Southerners will vote Brands as I here its awesome, although not done it.

Apart from garages and any decent facilities
Oulton for me, just has everything it's a riders circuit through and through and it's local, and getting even more local in the coming month... or two

Cadwell, with the exception of the poxy chicane (none too fond of the old hairpin either)...

I'll be there - assuming of course I don't bin the bloody thing again in the meantime!
Assen!!

Thruxton for me Steve, lucky enough to do 3 track days there before they pulled the plug, church corner is mindblowing...

Asss - oops
Erm - Donington for me thus far -haven't been to Oulton yet
Its Oulton for me.
Until a couple weeks ago I would have said Donington, but I prefer less straights and more corners, and Oulton has just the right recipe for me.
Its a 5 hour drive without traffic holdups for me to get there, which also means about £50 each way, but I'm racing (classic) there again on 31st :sing:

Wheres Thruxton, I really like Thruxton with its super fast sweepers.
I also really enjoy Donington and Cadwell and Pembrey is always fun
But I know that its Oulton that is probably the best circuit but I've only ridden it once back in 1998 and didn't get to know it well enough to fully appreciate it, hopefully come the DD race there in July I will appreciate it a bit more

NG members are allowed to race there
but as you posted under the trackday section, racing doesn't count
I would vote for Cadwell, then Donington-not done Oulton yet, had hoped to do it this year with the day I was trying to organise but not enough of you wanted to be there to make it viable:(
Donington though I would vote for the national circuit not the GP-the Melbourne loop is a waste of good tarmac for me, ruins a nice flowing track with a stupid stop start bit. I like Brands Indy for Paddock Hill and Clearways(even though I broke both wrist's there 6 years ago...........). I did Brands GP last year and was underwelmed to be honest, just didn't gell with it, was riding the ST4S-perhaps would have been better on the TZ.
Croft I can only vaguely remember from 1971 when we raced the Vincent outfit there-only went the once, we crashed, and I believe the track is completely different now anyway.

Only done, Donington, Brands (Indy & GP), Rocky and Snetterton...out of that lot I'd definitely say Donington. Brands GP is good (and local) but prefer Donington. I quite like the "Infield" circuit at Rocky, but also did the "Superbike" course, which includes riding two of the straight sections of the banked circuit...that was bl00dy horrible...all chicanes to get on and off the banking and bl00dy great concrete walls by your ear as you turn in to get back on the infield.

My guess is that lots of the votes for Cadwell will be from people who ain't ridden Oulton ;-)

If you want to come and have a look at oulton on bank holiday monday, I may be able to give you a ticket.

Based on what's been said mate, it certainly seems so too.
Although lets be honest, Cadwell is deffo right up there... it's a cracking track on many many levels. the Woodland section is great, long long right hander.. the Goosneck scares the crap out of you.... and the lefft at the bottom is scarey on the brakes...
Before the chicane went in, the run up towards the mountain was spot on, it's a it cruddy since then... but it's bearable.
Oulton though... damn it's sweet.
Cadwell gets my vote but only because Brands GP is just too damned expensive.
Goodwood was awesome, great fun and virtually on my doorstep, but now closed to bike Trackdays :flame::flame::flame:
I'll second that weeksy, I used to love the dash to get to the bottom of the mountain, and I'm still looking forward to getting a dry day there
I'm really looking forward to another bash at donnington too.
But I'm really excited about another ride round oulton in a weeks time :bouncy:
donny for me
i've been going there for years and just love the place and have done so many laps round there in cars or on bike, i still get a thrill first session out at donny.

Cadwell, superb riders circuit, fast & slow cornes, blind entries & only one dumb new chicane
Not done oulton, so can not comment, been told its like a posher version of cadwell, so would like to try it.
Done Darley, Snetterton, old fast mallory, brands Indy, none compare to cadwell.
