Superlight Fork Height

Anyone any idea of the dimension for the fork height in the yolks? Ie the height the top of the stanchion sits above the top yolk. Usefully the Haynes manual mentions you should measure it before you remove them. With a 12 yr old bike they could be set at anything!

I think mine are set at about 3 rings showing above the yoke, but it depends on what shock you've got in the back and how much you weigh/how old the shock is/when it was last serviced.

If the shock is in good nick and set for roughly your weight range, the oil in the forks is still reasonable, and the springs haven't sagged then I'd go with between 2-4 rings showing. If you want it slightly sharper then find a way to increase the rear ride height c.10mm and push the forks down until they are flush with the yoke. Not too tippy and drops into corners miles better.

When I had the 95 900ss, which has the same geometery as the Superlight, there was 15mm of fork leg above the top yoke when I got it. I subsequently increased this to 22mm for quicker turning.
The workshop manual quotes 268mm or 10.55" measured from the underside of the bottom yoke to the top of the fork leg excluding the cap nuts.

I've gone to 25mm of fork above the top yoke without any problem at all so far.

But dropping 5mm at a time from the std setting I was told is a good way to progress.
