The webteam are pleased to be able to inform you all that this weekend we will be upgrading the message board system to a new layout and new software. Since we have a 3 day weekend, and everyone will be out enjoying the sunshine ( :frog: ) hopefully it won't cause too much disruption. Having said that there's bound to be a few tweaks and corrections required during the next week !

Everyones username and password will remain the same and all posts and U2Us will be copied across to the new system. However due to the way avatars are set up in the old system, we have been unable to get them transferred correctly across to the new one in our testing processes - so once you get logged into the new system, you will have to reset your avatar.

If you have a list of U2U addresses you will need to rebuild this on the new system - equally if you have subscribed to any threads you will need to re-subscribe in the new system.

The old message board (i.e. this one) will still be viewable, but no postings can be made. We may retain it as an archive but if everything gets transferred over correctly it may be possible to turn off the old system at some point in the future. No decision has yet been made on this.

Although we have been testing the new system for over a month now behind the scenes, there may still be areas of the system that either need further explanation or maybe they don't work 'correctly' - if you email the webteam we will attempt to respond as soon as possible, but please bear in mind we could be quite busy in the first week !

The correct message board will be marked as 'read-only' early tomorrow morning and we anticipate completing the upgrade by late Monday afternoon. Since the new mesasge board is integrated into the main part of the website - just point your browser to http://www.ducatisportingclub.com - you don't need anything else following - and once the system is up and running you will see the new front page and from there access the new message board.

Feels like moving house already, but hopefully not quite as nervous!

Eamonn and Mark have done excellent work between them, especially in such a relatively short space of time.

But, I'll have a small celebration with a bottle of Stella anyways :D

And so, to the Stars.........

The new website is now open and since you're reading this I guess you have already found that out... :)

If you have any questions/problems/comments, please post them here. If there's anything urgent, please send an email to the webteam. We will be treating emails as a priority, so please be sensible when deciding whether a problem is important or not !

Looks great guys, mahoosive thanks for putting all the effort in to make the switch.

And especially for Ali (and all those other people who like to view the board at work  ) - there's a plain white style available, just select the colours from the menu in the lower left corner.

We will be developing other colour schemes soon.

Well done peeps. Like it.

I have one or two oddities. My sig got corrupted in the crossover so, I tried to take out the "/" that somehow appeared in in only to get an error telling me it was too long and should only be four line...despite the fact that it allowed me to use 5 lines.

Next...when I try to access www.ducatisportingclub.com I get an message telling me that I don't have permission to access that page.

Any ideas?

Only i diont think it is that busy, ie lots of people on the site at once, but it keep saying server busy.....................

On the old message board there was no limitations on the signature block - with the new system there are certain size limitations that we have imposed. Non-members can have up to 4 lines of 90 characters each, members get up to 8 lines.

Can't think why you would get any problems with that one as it's the main website home page?!?

Both the style and the underlying programs (engine) have been changed. Since the engine bit is still new to us, we have deliberately throttled it back for the moment so we can sort out where any bottlenecks are and what needs to be done to ensure we get a good service from the system. As we gain more experience/knowledge of the internals, we will be able to tune the system better and 'open her up' a bit more !
Whilst we have the system throttled back, you will see the 'server busy' messages. In this case, just wait a minute and try again - you may well be lucky!

I'm getting the same twpd. It happens to the home page and the membership page after you have logged in.

If it helps any in finding the problem I'm running XP Pro SP2 with all the updates, firefox 1.5.0.3 and avast AV. I'm also running behind a hardware router/firewall.

its all looking good with some very neat features and hacks added.

One thing which might be useful is for calendar events to be able to have a description and links so folks can find out more about them. Is this possible??

Like other non-members such as TWPD - I also get the following message on the 'home page':

CK, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

ALSO:
I also get the same message in the 'extras' section - for the weather only (links are fine) - also, very interestingly - I get the same message if I click on the membership bit too.
AK checked this bit out at work, and it only gives details about how to join - so Webteam - you might want to take a look at this asap? - if other non-members cant open this! (or is it just me???????)

All other sections are fine:)

I run XP.

AK has had no probs at all getting in, either at home or work it seems.

Also, going from the user settings, I gather that I cannot upload an avatar of my own choice? - is this only for members?

New site is good tho:D

its a vba permissions issue CK , it should be easy to solve I think.... permissions need setting for each module that's why certain ones may be visible some not.

Mark
30-May-2006, 15:28
I'm looking into this. As soon as I can solve this, I'll let you know.

Membership view, is what it says, about how to join. Not a members list. So what AK saw, is correct.

so users who are not logged in can see it
also full dsc members
but not board users who are not members
cos that is what seems to be on our home pc and i tried logging in ck here at work and get the same thing too then

Hello Webteam,

Got a small problem with the e-mail notification on subscribed threads in that i'm not getting any. I've checked all the settings and my e-mail address (it wouldn't be the first time i've got that wrong) and its all set for instant e-mail notification, but i still don't get any.

Any ideas?????

Cheers,

Shandy

Yes, this is a known problem. We switched the email system over to the new server on Monday this week only to find part of the software required hadnt been set up. So I reverted back to the old system for emails. I haven't had chance yet to install and check out the missing bits, but will do so this week. This will enable me to switch the email system from the old server to the new one and thus get the notification services working properly again.
