From EMA it's 4 junctions up the M1 then just off the A38 ( Jcn 28 )
Take you anything from 40 mins to 2 hours depending on traffic!!
Usually not too bad on a Saturday though

Could be a great reason to:

1) See lots of lovely 888 porn

2) Finally get to Cornerspeed and meet Nelly?

Have not even thought of timing and distance but would it be possible to make Oulton as well for the DD ???

Wow...thought I'd be laughed at but, its only 80 odd miles away...I feel a puny plan coming on

I've just heard from the Police and I get the keep the 888. YES!!!! The woman has now admitted she bought it in 2000 with stolen money and she never actually filed a theft claim in 2001 as she claimed. Thus, a bit of frantic spanner twirling, polishing and MOTing and Taxing will see me at Cornerspeed on the 888 rather than the RG. See you all there!!

If you do pillions, I'll leave the pillion seat cover off my bike on the way up there and give you a lift back on my 888 Strada.

I can take you back to a train station that's only 40 mins away from Kings Cross with trains that run every 15 mins, or, if I have time I'll go the extra 30-40 odd miles and give you a lift right home. Let me know, 'cos if you want a lift I'll have to take my hi-level cans off and put the pillion footpegs back on as well.

See y'all on Saturday 8th

Wondered that myself.... I'll start the ball rolling if you like.....12 o'clock?

Bye the way Jools if you've got a spare set of front footrests and brackets they can be used as temporary rear footrests. ( Well they can on the older 851 models ) They will bolt onto the back of the front footrest brackets so you can leave the high level pipes on.

Hello Jools

Blinkin hell mate thanks for the offer, I was looking at the train/bus situation
and there is a fast bus from Nottingham to Heathrow at 14.20 (3hrs)

But would mean I need to leave Nelly's early to get that bus.

Was thinking this would be easyer, as did not want to get back from Kings Cross wearing full leathers  in this heat.:(

But if you are going anywhere near West London, I'll jump on the bike.

Thanks again, what ever is easist for you.

Am doing me best to get the old girl ready for Saturday and need an MOT. Does Nelly do 'em cos you are allowed to ride to and from an MOT station aren't you?
Well it's only 100 miles or so each way.....

Anyone got an estimated time of arrival? I haven't ridden for a year so it'll probably take me 5 hours to get there in big girly pouff mode.

Also wasn't Ains coming with a few pals?

MOT's for Saturday ??? And I thought I had got problems....

Touch wood, the only thing wrong with mine is that the uppermost fairing bolt and "button" (not sure what you call it but it's a bit of a posh washer innit) just disappear each time I go on a ride. First time it happened was on RTL and I just assumed that I'd forgotten to put it back or not tightened it properly after some roadside repiars.

But, I replaced it on Saturday...rode 20 miles to the meeting point and it had gone again by the time I got there. The fairing stays on fine without it so it's only cosmetic but with so many connosieurs of T8's about I did want it to look it's best.

Thanks Nelly. It was only half a thought anyway!

There is a place near here that might do it with the termis on. Fingers crossed. Have swapped the subframe over to a biposto one so as to mount the high level pipes so it's not a ten minute job ( For me anyway ) to put the original silencers back on.

Trouble is finding time to spend on the bike at the moment what with work /kids/ renovating house etc.

Best of luck with the MOTs and fixes, guys! Mine passed the MOT OK yesterday afternoon but the examiner (ex Ducati mechanic) spent so long talking with me that I missed the chance to get a tax disk. It started straight away and ticked over immediately on a completely cold engine at 1,000rpm (I don't have the 'choke' lever). It ran OK to/from the testing station, nothing fell off and there were no puddles of oil/antifreeze/hydraulic fluid afterwards so I'm well chuffed. I'm looking forward to a good blast tonight to confirm all is OK. Hopefully I got the belt tension right :o)

I just knew I was fated NOT to be able to get down to Nelly's on Saturday - my daughters birthday party is on Sunday and I'm outta grace with bike activities already. :(

A few points -
Pilthy
MOT - I think is meant to be the 'nearest' practical station to you ;) - 100 mls is pushing things a little - I'd be a bit careful riding there if you are going to do this (good on ya though !!!)

Fairing screws - dunno if the T8's are the same as the SS's but I swapped to allen bolts with Nyloc nuts on the inside - they dont come loose if the bolts are long enough (final tip is that plastic number plate nuts make nice spacers for the windshield and other delicate places).

Belt Tension:
Just done mine on my SS using this site - and he covers 4V as well
Simply superb:

Finally...Have fun - Frank....

Can someone please take a camera and get some lovely pics!

Had a bit of a scare last night. Took the 888 on its shake down test last night. Started to push a bit and it was running lovely. Hit some traffic through Southwell so I was looking forward to opening it up. Felt the rear tyre twitch on the first bend out so thought I'd hit some diesel or was getting a flat. Seemed OK in a straight line so I cautiously peeled into the next bend only to have the back end slide around on me. It was only when I looked behind once that I noticed the wet line of antifreeze stretching back towards Southwell! The whole back of the bike was plastered including the tyre. At least I was near a pub to while away the time until a nice man came to take me home :-)

Checked tonight and the lower hose on the horizontal cylinder had blown right off. Looks like I have to hang my head in shame for not tightening it up properly. Not looking forward to bleeding that blasted cooling system again but I will make Cornerspeed (probably at very slow speeds given the lubricated tyre)!

Blimey Keith - close call, Loris would be proud!

A tyre can be cleaned down with a spray can of brake cleaner - I've used it before when I've had a tyre with manufacturing contaminants on it. Just enough solvent to do the job + a bit of elbow 'grease' = result.

Frustrated Frank.

keith888
05-Jul-2006, 21:53
Good tip, I'll give the brake cleaner a go. I have to say I didn't expect to be sliding the Ducati quite so quickly :-). I'll try and get there about 11.00am.

Is there any chance you guys could hang on a bit later? I'm not sure i'll make it by 2pm although i'll try. I took my forks off and gave them to Maxton at Snetterton BSB about the stiction problem (see previousthread...)
Basically they're 42mm forks but some monkey had fitted 41mm seals and dust shields. They're doing a rebuild and i'm having stiffer springs fitted too. The springs won't be here till Friday and they'll build the forks then. I work nights so i'll be going to work Friday night, waiting for the forks to arrive on a 9am delivery Saturday morning, building the bike up then leaving (with no sleep, that's dedication for you.) But i'll probably not be there till the afternoon. I'll be gutted if you've all ******ed off *sniff*

Jasper

Is this your front brake light switch?

If so couldn't you fit one off something else or explain the situation to the MOT tester & promise to use the back brake as well?

I got my MOT today!

Strangely enough as soon as I rode off the speedo stopped working as did the clutch reservoir and the headlight started dipping the wrong way and a set of termi's suddenly appeared on the end of the exhaust pipes.

The worst bit was riding through rush hour traffic with no clutch whatsoever. When I did have to stop it was a case of run alongside and push it as fast as I could, jump on and start the motor and bang it into first and blast off before it stalled again.... In leathers and in this heat. I nearly had a heart attack and must have lost gallons of sweat into my leathers.

I' have a go at sorting it tonight. Best worse case scenario will involve bringing a few pints of clutch fluid and a bleeding kit with me and bleeding as required on Sat. Worst case scenario will involve coming the VERY long way round via motorway and doing the rest of the journey as above.

Oh how I LOVE my ducati!

Jasper
06-Jul-2006, 22:46
Mot can wait, don't need it 'till next week. The brake light switch is hydraulic and i've had to return it to Goodridge for exchange;this means at the moment,i have no front brakes because the lines aren't connected to the master cylinder.Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I could always trailer the bike down and line it up for the pics!!!:)

Can you just get a standard one from a bike shop without the switch?

DaveB916
07-Jul-2006, 07:46
Hi Jasper,

Did the switch just fail after not being used regularly for a while?

If so I have had 2 do the same, seems the answer is when it fails squeeze the lever very very hard it the works again until the bike is again rested for a few weeks.

Goodridge suggested I 'should use it more'........LOL

Jasper
07-Jul-2006, 07:54
Dave,i think the failure was caused the other way.I had a cable tie the brake lever whilst it was on the trailer. When i undid it,it wouldn't work.No amount of hard lever pulling would make it work!!You would have thought it would have failed always on,not off.Never mind, fingers crossed it comes in the post this morning whilst i am at work.!!

Philthy,yes i could.That's my fall back plan.

At a rough guess (I didnt count them unfortunately) there was at least ten 888,s and two 851,s . There were a fair few pics taken with the bikes lined up outside Cornerspeed,s doors which will probably be posted up later . For lovers of the 8 series bikes it was a sight worth seeing tbh .

Cheers guys...nice ride out and good to ride the old girl again (first proper time since september !!). Ride through the cotswolds/fosse way at 7 in the morning was awesome..just like my own personal (70mph obviously..ahem!) racetrack with NO traffic !!.

Jasper you cheeky t**t !! Dont forget to sort my carbon bits out..

Thanks for nelly for opening up and lisa for getting my bakewelltart in !!

Cheers
Nat (Looking forward to the pics)

By the way - shouldn't we have a trophy for the furthest travelled bike on the day? ( Assuming we do this again next year ) you know, just like they do on rallies and treffens.

An excellent day.

Many thanks to Nelly for hosting the gathering.

Best part for me was putting faces to names - was really good to meet everyone who turned up!

But - only 9 888's ? (including two 851's) - I must admit I was expecting (or hoping for ) two or three times that many.

Maybe next year?

Hee Hee - or maybe another chance to get together on the 29th ;)

I've always thought of 851/888's as the 'Big Brothers' of the SS Series.

Just make sure Neil does not wear any Hawaiian shorts for surfin'
