View Full Version : Slipping clutch
I've not had my 996 long and don't know much about the mechanics of them yet so i apologise.
My clutch has started to slip when i give it some juice but only when its hot i.e after being in traffic, i've tried a closed and open cover but to no avail.
Is this the symptoms of needing new plates? or is it an adjustment problem as i fitted a new lever after an off, Or could it be cleaned up?
Just want to try everything before i fork out for some new plates.
Any advise welcome.
Answered my own question, had a look at the plates and they look worn so will replace them.

Don't be too hasty, they look worn out even when they are brand new. Give it all a good clean with brake cleaner and glaze bust the steel plates and see how it goes then.
I know what your saying, ended up changing the friction plates and plain plates. Put it back together and it still slipped at aroung 4500 revs. then had what i think is a common problem with the allen key bolts on the posts being made of jam!!
So what else can make the clutch slip? i had a look at the slave cylinder and it looks fine.
Was hoping to go to snetterton on it tomorrow so have this aft to fix the swine.
Any advice would be welcome

Make sure you are packing the plates correctly particularly with respect to any dished plates marked with a centre punched type dot. These need to go in facing correctly and in correct order do you have a Haynes manual or similar?
And have you started the packing with the correct plate/s?
yes, on this there's only one dished plate and its in corectly, just put it back together and i've popped the slave seal. numpty me! hopefully it will be fine once i've done that. just off to pick up a seal.
Have you fitted a different cover plate?
