what type of piant should be used,

ive had them properly dipped and coated in somesort of shell grip type stuff

the paint guy said something about not using solvent based paint, and want to charge a bit more as its more expensive, said something about the solvents attaking the magnesium.

somehow doesnt sound quite right ?
someone else tells me ordinary paint is fine?

does anyone know?

I was told only to trust Dymag with that sort of job.

Kinda interested in the outcome as my Magnesium Marchi might need doing at some time.

Hmmmm....I don't think the type of finish matters so much as the preparation since magnesium (from any manufacturer) needs to be treated carefully with the right processes and chromate undercoat as well as being crack tested.

Frank is right, Dymag off a refurbishment service for mag wheels from any manufacturer and this is what they say (copied from their site):
__________________________________________________ _____________

Customers are advised not to attempt to remove the finishing systems that have been applied to Dymag wheels..

PERMANANT DAMAGE CAN RESULT FROM INCORRECT USE OF CHEMICAL PAINT STRIPPERS OR BLASTING MEDIA..

The Following refurbishment service is available from Dymag

Strip coating back to bare magnesium
Conduct dye-penetrant inspection
Apply chemical chromate coating
Repaint
Replace bearings & assemble
Final visual inspection

Please email (info@dymag.com) us for more details and prices on this service.

Collection/Delivery time is : Typical lead-time is two weeks from receipt to despatch

Note:

If at the Inspection stage a wheel is found to be cracked or damaged beyond use, a charge of £15 + VAT will be made. If the customer then requires the wheel to be returned, it will be drilled prior to prevent further use.
