View Full Version : David Harris Memorial ‘Riders for Health’ Charity Track Evening - Brands Indy 13 Sept
Annette
06-Aug-2006, 19:42
For the second year running Kevin Healy (Focused Events) and Jonathan Palmer (MotorSport Vision) have kindly offered management and track for another evening event. To book, please phone Focused Events on 08702 646268. Details attached.
Its £59, all of which goes to R4H, plus, if you want to, there’s a sponsorship form so you can mug other people for dosh too! Sponsor form attached.
Whether you want a cheap full on track evening or perhaps you’ve never ridden a track in your life and feel like only doing one lap to say that you’ve done it, £59 smackers aint bad.
Last year you raised £7.5k. It would be great to exceed this and if we can keep the momentum up, who knows? The nice men at Focused and MSV might just do it again next year.
It’s for a good cause. Your £7.5k bought a health worker, motorcycle and much more last year.
And, many of you knew Dave. I think it’s a good way of remembering him and focusing on the fact that we’re not immortal and to have a bloody good time whilst we get the chance.
There’s a little stash of raffle prizes growing by the minute, and this thread will be updated as and when new bits and bobs appear (donations gratefully received;-). I’ll be attacking people for raffle money on the night. So far we have:
-A Nicky Hayden autographed cap (future world champ?) – donated by Riders for Health
-Some Ducati books – donated by Riders for Health
-‘Mission Accomplished’ Airwaves t-shirt autographed by Lavilla – donated by Darrell Healey
-Airwaves rider profiles (Haslam and Lavilla) autographed – donated by Darrell Healey
-Ducati Corse 'Pandoras Box' (a box of workshop goodies-wipes/disposable gloves/polishing cloths etc) - donated by Nat
- £100 voucher towards paintwork at Essex County Choppers in Upminster, Essex - donated by Chris/Ant E
- Ducati 1/1000 limited edition book - donated by Chris B
- R&G racing knee sliders – CSS
- Alpinestar ‘racing ahead’ socks (L/XL) – CSS
- Sportsmax Qualifier black, collar/button shirt – (M) – CSS
- 2 pair heather gray Alpinestar sport boxers (M) – CSS
- CSS black neck warmer – CSS
- Alpinestar black t-shirt (M) – CSS
- Alpinestar navy t-shirt (ladies S) – CSS
- CSS ‘Cornering. Discover the Art’ shirt (ladies L) - CSS
- ‘A twist of the wrist’ by Keith Code (book) – CSS
- ‘A twist of the wrist’ by Keith Code (dvd) – CSS
- Barry Sheene, the M Scott version - donated by Henners
- Alice/Shell Advance official Ducati shirt (L) - DUK
- Ducati service mechanics overalls (L) - DUK
- Ducati service mechanics trousers/bib & braces type (L) - DUK
- A cute little stand up Ducati 'Cocciolo' picture and some neck tie things - DUK
& Creative-Fx has kindly made up 3 DH R4H banners especially for the event.
Even if you don’t want to go on the track last years was a great social event, so come along anyway. Oh, and bring some decent weather with you this year!

I know what I mean!
Got the letter and forms the other day.
Hopefully not as wet as last year.:)

More fodder for the DD bikes, and thats just the 583's :D
Not that i condone any form of competition on a track day of course, especially in these days of heightened political correctness where we no longer have school "Sports days" with winners and losers, just winners and second winners etc
Good luck with the event Annette, I'll still be in Poland so won't be able to make it.
So, if anyone who knows me wants sponsoring give me a shout - first come first served

It's very unlikely that I'm going to be able to make this Annette - there's a 49.5% chance I will be in Milan, a 49.5% chance I'll be in the States, and a 1% chance I'll be here.
Whether I'm here or not, please put me down for sponsorship - same amount as last year ;)

Flanks - I'm sure we'll end up having the usual post party party at The Lion to listen to the 'I went faster than you'; 'did you see the wheelie I pulled'; 'who was that prat?' usual old stuff. Cheap plonk. Actually a decent range of wines available over the bar. And good grub.
Excellent! I can make this by just one day, so see you there.

Very glad to see this is back again Annette. Well done! About to phone to book my place.
Martin, I'll take you up on that sponsorship offer. Fixed sum regardless of number of laps completed, but let's give me more incentive than that - if it's raining I'll do all the sessions this time (only did one last year because I had no confidence in my tyres), and then you pay double, ok?
PS pleased to see you back in the club
PPS I'll be expecting sponsorship from any BHCN not attending in person.

It would appear that for the charity to claim the tax back on the donations it is necessary for the donor to place their home address on the form.

Looks like I've got my neighbour Bob to book as well - another trackday virgin - on his Panzer :)
Annette,
Will there be anybody counting each rider's laps or do we have to do it ourselves?
I thought I would set my trip meter to zero and just divide by 1.2 (or whatever the offical lap length is) at the end of the evening.
Is that OK?
Cheers,
Richard
p.s. Looking forward to a great evening!
Annette
11-Sep-2006, 12:50
Hi Richard
Well, on the basis that time trialing, racing etc is not allowed on track days, we have to be hypathetical.
So we guess that if you're out on the Indy 1.2 miles (I think), people will be doing around 1 minute laps (OK, I know that's pushing it, even if you're a DD racer!). So on the basis of a 20 minute session, you can let your sponsor know that you've done 20 laps. It'll be a lie, but it's all in the name of charity..... See you Wednesday.
Redruth
11-Sep-2006, 14:42
I've done all my sponsorship by amounts per 'session', which raised a few cheeky questions and comments about what they'd expect for a session with me! Joking aside, it seemed simpler to do it that way because if there were any mechanical problems and I had to cut a session short, I'd still get the full amount for going out. I'm capping it at three sessions, though. If FE squeeze a 4th in, that will be free gratis and for nothing :)
I'm on the Monster as the Duchess has developed an oil leak so not track worthy, I'm afraid. I'm sure I'll have loads of fun out there though. :)
1 minute laps? Pah! We do that on the warmup!
Annette
11-Sep-2006, 15:26
.....except for Nick who'll do 25 in 20

Many thanks to all those people that very kindly offered to lend me a bike for the evening but I can't put someone else's machinery at risk every time I come flying round/over/through/off (delete as appropriate) Paddock Hill bend so I will decline your generous offers.

What time are things happening off the track, eg raffle ect?
When does all the sponsorship dosh need to be collected and who do we give it to?

Annette
12-Sep-2006, 13:41
The raffle is directly after the track closes - so I would guess around 7:30 (b4 the pub ).
I'll be there from around 3, and I think there will be people milling around from there on - especially if the sun is shining. Dibs and Eric look like they're arriving early.
Sponsorship collection - asap and send it to Focused Events. Kevin and Simon bank it all and then write out a nice fat cheque to R4H. From memory, last year it took a couple of months for it all to come in.
C u tomorrow.

Don't know who these BBC weather forecasters are. Forecast for Kent is sunny and warm, as is the forecast for Hemel, but it's grey and overcast here and feels very damp. How's it looking down in Kent?
The rain won't deter me though, just wish I'd stuck to my 'double if it rains' sponsorship plans. I gave that up when people started being so generous that it didn't seem right to try to build in a 100% uplift for bad weather ;) See y'all at the track.
