Mike @ MD Racing was just putting the finishing touches to my 996 today (after i binned it at Snetterton) in time for Cadwell, went to start it and it cut out with a bang.
Transpires that the reason for my 'off' was that one of the bolts from the fuel tank lug at the front had worked loose, dropped into the airbox, and then found its way into the rear inlet. Resulting in at least one broken valve, another mangled one, and, if I'm lucky, the rest has escaped.
Anyhow, Mike has tried today to source a complete 2nd hand head + valves given that thats probably the most effective/cheapest way of getting back on the road. But he's had no luck and he's pretty much out of time.
So, bit of a plea - any thoughts on my chances of getting this back in time for Cadwell? Does anyone know anyone who might have what were after? Does anyone have the know-how to help me out?
what spec is the 996 ? bp/ s /SPS???

Its a BP, Wilf.
Its a BP, Wilf.
May well have a complete head at work, i'll check tomorrow.
have you had the head off yet? it may have mashed the piston too if its jammed a valve open. if so you could have knocked out the bottom end shell.
full of cheer me!
PS those damm bolts are often loose when we take the tanks off for a service. locktite the hell out of em!
I saw a guy crash when his tank came off mid corner at mallory! scarey stuff.

At the risk of getting a thump, you should have bought the 998R. Doh!

Cheers Wilf. I'll give you a call in the morning if you dont mind. Mike has gone through the nightmare scenario with me... I cant even go there! Just keeping my fingers crossed that its the valves at this point.

i had the same thing happen to me. bolt from the tank bracket fell into the throttle body of the vertical cylinder & got wedged between the head & valve. i replaced 1 bent valve & 1 broken closing rocker. the piston had a mark on it but looked ok. couple of hundred quid with gaskets etc.(you have to buy the valves as a pair. ive still got one if you need it.

Bugga - this happened to my SPS - fortunately for me it was covered under warantee, but it was the head and all valves etc....
Good luck
