996/998 frame differences

A mate called around to use my rear ride height guage on is 996S ,when i tried to use it i found the top frame hole thats used to locate the guage is a different size ( approx 2mm bigger dia) , I thought the guage was ONE SIZE FITS ALL across the 99* range !!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas !!!!:(

Totto, at the Rockingham trackday I set up Dibbles rear ride height using the gauge that fits my 94 916 Strada and 96 916Bip, wheni I tried it up against Whele's bike it didn't fit, so some frames are different from others.
