Fuel problem

I left my 996 in for a belt change yesterday, phoned the dealer today and was told the bike was ready for collection. Went up tonight, paid for the work and started the bike only to notice petrol flowing out of it. With it being after hours the mechanics were gone so it was up to myself and the storeman. He lifts the tank and notices a breather pipe uncoupled. He snaps it together and we start the bike. Still the fuel comes flowing this time from a fuel line connection at the bottom of the tank. He says this is faulty and needs replaced. How can this be? Is the tank lifted during a belt change?
I'm really p****d off as it's a 140 mile trip to my "local" dealer.

yes the tank comes off as does the air box.
they are all quick release connectors and it is possible it hasn't been pushed home.
that or its dirty and not locking into position properly.
very easy to sort out yourself

Try taking your tank off and check the green rubber seals that are on the quick release coupler, it's possible that one has been caught, I did this to mine the other week and fuel was p155ing out all over the engine. They're only about 30p or so.

Probably nicked one of the little green o rings that seal the QR couplings. About 30p each but that doesnt help you at present does it.

The bike was delivered back to me this morning with the problem sorted out and a fairly minor apology.
You guys were right in your diagnosis of the fault, the rubber seal, with the main culprit being the dopey mechanic. I'll take her out for a good spin tonight and all this will be forgotton.

seated properly - as soon as you "prime" the system (when you turn the key and hear the wirring noise) if its going to leak anymore - it will leak then as the system builds pressure in the fuel lines.

Surprised that they didnt start the bike and check it runs ok anyway after the belt change.

30p per line fix!!!

Very frustrating.
