Dead S4R

Tried to start the S4r this morning and the clock unit is dead. I can hear a solonoid working somewhere around the engine for the fuel injection I think?.
Looked at the fuses and the battery is on the optimate but nothing on the electric start.
Light on the dash is flashing amber

Any ideas

Could be one of the relays that control the injection or the sidestand cut out.Not sure where they are on your bike,but on my wifes 900 they are to the left of the battery.Made by Siemens,cost around £5,and complete ****.

Can still be the battery, had the same on my monster last year took it to the dealer, he tested the battery said it was ok could'nt find any fault so I insisted he tryed a new battery,gess what it started.

Agreed!Had a battery that showed over 12.5v on the multimeter but still did'nt have enough oomph to turn the bike over.
I cant say I'm over impressed with the Optimate charger either.They seem to work better if used occasionally rather than being left on all the time.

If the yellow led is flashing then it means that the immobiliser is active. This normally tuns off once the key is in and the ignition turned on. Some bikes have an energy saving ECU that turns off again after 10-15 secs of inactivity.

Id go down the same road with the battery, the 996 lump is one mother to turn over and allthough the battery might show volts, it the amps the give the uummph. No uummph no go/eee engine 4D

Thanks guy's for the advise, must be a bit more serious as the speedo unit is completely dead and I think the main processor is in this unit.
Will have to call the dealer in the morning, can feel a big bill coming on!!!

Going to St Neot M/c. They have always done a good job, just got to try and get it there now without costing a fortune. Might try pushing it down the street and calling the AA??

Decided to take another look before trying to get the bike to a dealers.

Took each fuse out again and found a 15amp hidden behind the loom that I must have missed (sunday morning, bike won't start, annoyed look :mad:).

Nicked fuse from car and up all the clocks spring into life :sing:

Turn the lights on and the fuse blows again :puzzled:

Caught a glance at rear light wiring and spot an earth wire shorted to the live wire. Bit of insulation tape and way we go again.

Now a happy bunny again and looking forward to next weekends rideout
