View Full Version : DD Meeting Open To All Dsc Members + Names Pls
Paul James
12-Oct-2006, 13:06
Copied from another thread for clarity.
This has cost me a double thickness Nomex suit but hey it must be worth it.
I suggest that to put an end to this ongoing, non productive back and forth that we hold a meeting that is open to any DSC member interested in putting their points forward for proper discussion regarding the Desmo Due series. Not just a small group, not just the MT, not just the RC but ANY member with a true interest in putting this to bed.
We can resolve this even if it means a darn good row to clear the air. This isn't the place to do it and it isn't the only place we need to make the offer of a meeting. It will need to go into Pronto to be fair to all.
Anybody else got the will to do this and stop the bickering on these forums ? If not then I have to ask why not if you have the best interest of the club and DD at heart ?
We (DSC) will run the series again next year and at the outset the riders and those offering to help will all know what is expected of you, the RC will all know what is expected of them.
So. Copy and paste if you want to genuinely see it sorted !!!

You are one messed up puppy Weeksy, you've just offered to chair the meeting on the other thread
this is a good idea in principle........
I will attend BUT it must be about how we go forward ,about 2007 DD and the future..NOT about the past and why/who/you did/i said / we said..****......
it imho should be about positive ideas on how we make the DD/DSC in 2007 better for us all...................
if it about the protest at snetterton or the evo split or this and that...i am not going as it will be a **** fight..................

I, unsurprisingly, disagree.
We need to resolve the current issues, gain closure, then move on. IMO
I can't see any other way to stop the drama.

In fairness Phil we do need closure on some issues by the look of it. The main reason overall is to affect the future though.
We don't need to dwell on the past or make it into a soapbox session, we all know it could have been done better and I've openly admitted that enough times.
What we need is positive input and to put an end to the moans and groans about 2006.
We need a seperate meeting after the cut off date for 2007 registration so that ALL those who want to be involved in helping out in whatever way they want to can offer that help so that it can all be pulled together into one proper forward looking plan.
I, unsurprisingly, disagree.

great...so its gonna be a witchunt....
Who protested who and why who funded it..why does no one listen to my ideas the rc suck you should all resign....
tell you what call me when we start talking about positive actions for 2007

Can we chill guys, we've all got points to make, its all about going forward as we can't change what we did or said two seconds ago let alone throughout all last year.
What we discuss will only affect next season, it can't affect the 2006 season as thats finished.
Errr, guys ... this meeting is setup so we can debate these things there. Instead of bringing the server down!
Can we do it at the meeting?

Right. The whole idea of offering a meeting was to stop all this from carrying on with no positive value.
Leave it alone or ask why its still going on when we have a workable means to put a line under it openly on offer.
Now, can we just get back to listing who has enough interest in actually meeting to sort things out.

</p>You could wait until the AGM Phil and see if the club funded it as it would have to be declared, but if the club did fund it not sure paying members would be happy.
Listen very carefully-I will say this only once(more!) THE CLUB DID NOT PAY FOR THE PROTEST AT SNETTERTON!
All those hoping to see it declared as an item at the AGM will be very dissapointed-on the other hand it may be a good way of getting the lazy buggers to attend the AGM for once.

That's not right...
We had a very interesting racers meeting last Saturday by the "evo" group and they're not on that list... In my opinion, the DD meeting will be pointless if they don't take part to it.
There are clearly 2 sides in that story... And things won't move forward if the 2 sides are not present in the same room.
Come on guys...

Not what he said at all is it ? He is stating yet again that it won't show as an expense as it wasn't paid for by the club.
Why don't you ask the treasurer to confirm that if you are still unsure.

Not wishing to spoil my exemplary record of attending all things DD/DSC, I'll come along too.
Did I see a map of it being somewhere near Oxford? Have you fixed a time and date yet Paul?
If it's near Oxford I can get in a few laps at Bicester Shopping Village before or after so that would be a good venue for me

Great ! more beer then.

Did suggest that but to be fair to all we are now getting the postcodes of those attending and looking for a sensible, central location for the meeting. Not set the date yet as the suggestion will be going into Pronto to give all members a fair chance to come along. I would think a Saturday in arly/mid November.

Paul do you need postcodes from the racers or can you get them from the surveys?
Probably easier if you just fire them at me by email if that's OK ? That way I can pick up the racers and non racers all in one place and it includes anyone who picks the info up from Pronto.
Send to paul.james@ducatisportingclub.com put DD meeting postcode in the subject line and your name and postcode in the body of the message please. That way I can direct them into one outlook folder using a simple rules wizard.

If you draw a 90 mile radius around Postcombe I bet it covers one heck of a lot of those racing or interested in DD, for those that don't know it, its a few miles futher West along the M40 from last years Diner and Dance and the venue has a function room that we could utilise.

Thats why I suggested it mate. Bit of a trip for Ian but I'm sure if we can illustrate the geographical distribution of attendees and it ends up being around there anyway all will see that its decided on fairly.

Just a thought. How about holding the meeting on Sunday 29th after the Dinner Dance? Chris would know how many people who've already put their names on the list are going to be there on Saturday night and for those that haven't yet got their tickets (Ali! - Saara's looking forward to putting a smart frock on - Tonio, Julie said she'd like to go I believe) there might be a few more takers for that too. The BHCN might even swing by after a Sunday morning rideout out  There might be a conference room available at the hotel that could be booked - and I could go shopping in MK afterwards so I'd be happy too :)

As it was my idea, obviously I'm in favour of it being after the Dinner Dance (or in the afternoon beforehand if that suits people better) but I agree with Dom - does notification really need to go in PRONTO? Riders have been contacted by e-mail throughout the season. Has there been any problem with that? Anyone who is interested in the DD who isn't actually a racer would have been looking on the board (or Dom's sight) for race information so should have seen this thread. I actually think that putting yet more into PRONTO about an unofficial DD/DSC meeting would just irritate members who are not interested. If something is raised at the meeting that affects the whole club and requires a vote from the whole membership, then put it in.

Paul, I really don't think putting a notice in PRONTO will be worth the paper it's printed on. The next PRONTO issue is going to contain the redrafted constitution. I think that's enough for people to think about, if they're going to think about anything. Frankly, I don't think anyone who isn't involved in the racing one way or another already is going to show up.
Avanti would be a good way to notify people if it worked, but it doesn't, as Eamonn has explained recently. Other than that, those that are going could give their fellow DSC mates who might be interested a bell and tell them about - cheaper and quicker way to put those who need to know in the know.

Yeah, it's a long way from Jerez to Postcombe too!! ;)

This was discussed at the MT meeting on Saturday and my concept of holding the open members meeting unanimously supported, as was my continuing to work on resolution of the issues regarding Desmo Due in preparation for 2007.
The date has been set as 18th November to allow us the opportunity to put the information in the impending issue of Pronto. This will allow all members to attend should they wish in the true spirit of openness and transparency.
The venue for the meeting will be determined by the geographical locations of all those wishing to attend who also send me their post code, as some of you already have. There is no need for you to send your post code if you have no problem with travelling to the meeting from wherever you are situated.
Please use email: paul.james@ducatisportingclub.com
Should you be unable to attend for any reason but wish your views to be discussed in this open forum please feel free to send an email to: secretary@ducatisportingclub.com with the details.
We will openly discuss any issue you may put forward in a public arena can we agree to save the issues until then so that proper discussion can take place.
It is all too easy to get the false impression that Desmo Due is a totally flawed series, nothing could be further from the truth as the continued enthusiasm of the riders has shown. For some time now I have been promoting the value of rider input to the series. I’ve suggested that they make their offers of help available to us so that we can run the series cohesively with the added benefits that they can bring.
I will have some proposals to put forward to you at the meeting based on in depth consideration of the first two years of our club championship.
Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm, with this I fail to see how 2007 can be any other than the best year yet for Desmo Due !
I have also suggested that we have an open to members, informal meeting each year, possibly at some point during the summer, where general views and suggestions can be made on how the club can be improved in any other respect. This will give an opportunity for Desmo Due to be seen in its proper context by members who don’t compete in the series and to understand that it isn’t the clubs only point of focus. If people join DSC to enter the series surely that is no worse than joining because they want to do the track days or go on the regional rides or get involved in anything else we do ?.
Our club aims to be as all encompassing as possible, Desmo Due is one of the core deliverables available to any member who conforms to the rules and as far as I’m aware a unique opportunity to enter racing inexpensively and with fellow Ducati enthusiasts.
We have no problem with openness and transparency, I am personally happy to talk with any of you on club related issues wherever we may meet. Continuing with bitter forum postings will do no favours to the club or the individuals concerned. Should anyone have an interest in promoting hatred and antagonism I believe the following forum could offer the ideal resources for that: http://www.visordown.com/forums
That's great news PJ. I'll look forward to it.

I'd like to propose that as you've shown an interst in this you could to do it.
Will you take this on for us ?
What consideration was given to those who've already volunteered?

Sorry Lily, no offence intended and I sincerely thank you for your offer !! How about a team doing it or a vote on who does it ? I've got no axe to grind and don't want to influence the decision in any way !!!!!
How about the people who turn up on the day vote on it ? Any way it can be fairer than that ?
As far as I'm concerned whoever chairs it we will discuss all the issues raised.

Did you read my previous comments regarding it being a team effort, chaired by one person with a small group of unbiased, impartial, independent moderators that are able to control the meeting whilst still letting people have their say?
If the chair/team is voted on the day I think it may just delay the proceedings and you may not get anyone impartial turning up which in itslef would make things difficult.

I've read every post on this thread and have really appreciated the input, interest and consideration that's been given to my idea of having the meeting. My concern is that it all gets too complex when really it is an open forum meeting which shouldn't need to much policing. All will be heard and it surely just needs someone to take some impartial minutes for later reference and someone to call a bit of order if anybody gets too excited ?.
I'll listen to anyone else's views on how we run it of course, just my take on it.

I'd have thought that my fairly lengthy postings here were fairly self explanatory but I'm happy to discuss them with you if not.

Maybe it was this ?
I fail to see the point in telephoning a person who is supposed to be no longer part of the DD and should have no further influence on it and it's future.
Seems to me that all this stuff could be avoided and the club and dd could move on if it were not for the current issues, and they mostly revolve around the rc and mt and ever more evident in todays postings.
I thought this was a club , and as such is governed by certain rules, and it means if folk aren't happy they can elect members to act accordingly.
You seem to be putting yourself forward no matter what.

Not working with the facts here are you ? I've openly advised you all that I won't be involved with running DD next year.
I've just posted here to say that the MT at the meeting on Saturday unanimously requested that I continue with resolving the issues you mention which is why I've called the members meeting.
We will discuss any DD related issues you may have in open, face to face forum. I will be there, I will answer your questions. If you have any questions you wish to ask in the meantime I'm happy for you to give me a call.
If anybody else wants to do the same let me know and I will send you my phone numbers.
I hope this clarifies the matter for you.

That post is exactly the reason I asked you to refrain from being so condescending and patronising in your previous emails and why it did not 'help' any situation

If there was any chance that this meeting would result in a clearer way forward with all issues resolved and a brighter future free of all this mess then i'd be interested - but it will not. Not while you and others are still involved in it.

Well you are entitled to your opinion but I have to say I usually derive my opinions by listening reasonably to both sides of any argument or issue.
You are looking at this from an entrenched perspective which is what I have been accused of in the past.
You have prejudged the outcome of the meeting and publicly made your somewhat cynical thoughts on this known.
I have to say that such negativity is hardly going to help the situation.
Come to the meeting and ask what you will. If the answer to any question involves me admitting that I've been wrong (which at times I have been) then I will do just that. If I've offended then I will listen to criticism and where relevant apologise.
I will bring along some ideas based on facts rather than supposition about how DD can be improved, I would expect the same courtesy extended to me in that they are heard as I am extending to all of you.
If after that the consensus is that I'm unreasonable and unwilling to listen to the attendees then I will step down from dealing further with DD matters at that point.
Are these the actions of an unreasonable man ?
Pick up the phone and give me a call, you can reverse the charges if you want to.

No - I have prejudged the meeting on the actions of those in control since early this year, and of the state of things now and the fact that despite all things getting progressively worse over the last year the membership has been ignored, the questions not answered constructively and the actions of some of you in particular over the last couple of months.
Give me something to judge otherwise - actions speak louder than words, and frankly the actions of this so called club over the last couple of months have been outrageous!
And you wonder why i'm cynical ? - Give me a reason not to be

Actions will take place but if not done after considering genuine consensus will only make matters worse. Surely one of your accusations is that I don't listen ?

You are entitled to your own point of view.
Do you then agree that the meeting I propose is pointless ? If so you seem to have changed your opinion as you were one of the first to sign up to the idea ?
Continuing this line of dicussion is rather pointless as it is based on supposition, let's see what the true outcome is and all judge from that ?
No wish to fight with any of you, get along to the meeting and lets talk it over.

Yes indeedy. I've bunged in all the postcodes to date and it comes back to Postcombe being pretty much the best option. Its Northwest of London, just off M40 J6 so pretty good access all round. Room at the "Englands Rose" public house, called in last night to check all is OK so start time for meeting 11am, lunch at 1pm. If you want lunch they will take food orders before we start the meeting.
Will be emailing all who have registered their interest with the info and a map link later today.
