Hi All,
According to AMCN the 1188R will be fitted with a convential swingarm and Ducati will be producing an 848 version of the super bike to compete in an American racing series (Pro Thunder? I think it is called).
Regards,
Harry.

variation ? backwards & purely aesthetic step morelike !! LOL
wonder if the 1098/1198 R (being a proper R bike - LOL) will be 1198cc & have a proper dual sided schhhwinger ?
function over fashion every time IMHO !

Thats because (If its true) Single siders look better and double swingers work better under race conditions.
Good job we dont have any SBK Riders here and most of us will be looking good on the roads, where we spend 99% of our time and if any of us do venture on to a race track, I`m sure no one on the forum will be finding the "limits" of their single sided swing arms.
I`m sure we`ll be ok...
Suppose it's an issue if you use it on track days though... as you'll be changing gearing even little things like tyre profile will have a far greater effect on the handling due to the eccentric compared to a standard swingarm. Also be a bugger for anyone who wants to aspire to the full blown version... how many people buy a base model then bling it up to look like the top model or race bike?

Again...I`m sure we`ll be ok and wont be effected too much.

Been a lot of that with the 999 anyway John-people changing the earlier cast swingarm for the later formed one.

Single sider is great for track days, far less effort changing the rear wheel, the staff don't get their hands mucky messing with the chain, spacers, spindles, brake calipers and such like:D

???? Guess you've never mucked about with the ride height tools then Ray??? Takes longer to set that up than swap a wheel believe me, I know from a WSB level speaking to certain riders who had snapped single sided swingers and the hassle getting the goemetry right after swapping wheels/gearing/tyres it's not that straight forward.
You guessed right..........just enjoyed the easier turning as the ride height increased as the chain gets tensioned up or when new tyres have gone on:D
