999/748`s
I assume thats a typo !?!?!?
I assume thats a typo !?!?!?
Yes, he meant 998/748.
I am so looking forward to this...
We've had 916/748 vs 999/749
We've had red vs yellow
Now we can have 916 vs 999 vs 1098...
Such a shame they're not doing it in yellow or we could throw that into the mix as well....!
All I can say is I'm glad we're all individuals and all have different tastes, otherwise it would be very bland indeed
I'm going to wait and see one in the flesh before deciding whether I like it or not...
So what ya think?

well said......at the moment my Ducati of choice would be a 999S mono nero, but not having £14k and needing a commuter I settled for a red S2R

Yep,and as for those antique 998's,...we will be burning them.
3.....on the basis it was cheaper/month to buy another bike than buy a season ticket for london public transport, as I am losing the Jaguar with the job change.
Also got £250 off my insurance premium from Ducati, for buying the new bike. made sense. Am ashamed to say its red so will have to call it cl*t*r*s.

I've got a copy of MCN (thereby avoiding an 'copyright' infringement) and can say that it looks fab but, being the proud owner of a 996 and a 749, I have to say (and I never thought I would) I love my termis on the 749 and I think they look better with that seat than the 'copycat' pipes they've used for the 1098. Having said that, I think I need to buy one anyway ;)
I like it.BUT not sure about the exhausts, are the outlets at an angle or is it just the way they have been photographed?
And it's all official now :D

the back ends good an all. just not quite as good as the front
can't wait to see one in the flesh:D

Love the action pics. Great looking bike. Bring on the '08 season. Shame that Ducati riders see fit to constantly **** it at this stage. There is no jap bike available that comes close in the looks dept.

Nah...that's convinced me. Had my doubts from the MCN spy shots and todays front page, but the action shots have convinced me...it's feckin gorgeous!!!
Looks awesome in that last picture, lifting the front wheel... those mirrors look a bit odd though...
Can't wait to see one for real... when is it arriving at dealers??

Whats with the big weld on the swinging arm then ?
butt ugly...i'm sorry, i don't see nothing new, really dissapointed. looks cbr-ish at the front, mv-ish at the back and the exhausts look more of an after thought than on the 999 :(
i hope it looks better in the flesh
On Ducati.com its saying 171kgs and 160bhp which tranlates to what in real money
And talking of money how much ????????
Having said that it works for me and if its 11 grand then maybe just got to do the fugures ,but 12 grand not so sure :(
Heres hoping :)

Internal bracing I should imagine

Nah, I'm just going to fit a 1098 bodykit to mine :)
Hmmm,.........
Nice pics of the 'S' in MCN and Ducati.com,.....overall I like the look of the new bike, however there are some bits I'm not sure of.For instance, whats with that ugly heat sheild on the r/h side of the bike,.....those exhausts dont look quite right either,.....and the mirrors,.....
I can see elements of the 916 shape bikes there and a fair bit of 999,(not a bad thing!) so its kinda growing on me.Just gonna have to wait untill Milan or when they arrive at my local dealer to crawl all over it for a better look.

oh I like that!
is it me or do the headlamps look narrower and meaner than in the other photos we have seen. I do like it like from the from front, now gettingb used to the rear. I think the idea about the big bulging cans is to emphasise the power of the bike, gives the impression the bodywork can barely contain them.
Yeah I reckon it's excellent. I really love the headlights and the air intakes underneath them, nice one.
It looks aggressive and I hope it has the power to match. On the Ducati website it says it has the highest torque/weight ratio of any sportsbike. Wheelie monster anyone?
Woohoo!!!

... I hope they never do it in matt black...
I wonder what the bi-posto looks like...?
How big is the tank?
Will the mirrors work?
I think the ali silencers look better than the carbon.
I'm very, very, very interested now....
Hmmm, a single seat S in gloss black ... now that's a bike I'd have!
:D
Can someone photoshop me that wheelie pic above with a deep, lustrous black fairing?
Puuulllleeeeeeeze?

If you are meaning the pictures & cad drawings in MCN, they look well fake to me, 998 frame, 748/916 side stand, fairing has the cut out for the 999 side stand, tope yoke is from a 748/916, swinging arm from a MV, the list is endless, fake, fake, fake :)

I'm getting into this....
here's a black one....
It's loooking better and better by the minute guys!!
However one blatant faux pas!
WHY WHY WHY only one headlight on? I hate this on "side" headlamps it just spoils the whole balance and symmetry. Will every1 who buys one, plase always ride round on full beam.
thank you ;)

Ooh, that's horny!
I'm loving that ... Excuse me Mr Ducati sir ... I'll happily race one somewhere, in any class you want!

never had that problem on my 749 ! LOL
Lol oh so true.
Stacked headlights look cool with only one on, wheras side by side looks broken...
Ah look at us all harking back to the the classic 749/999's oh how everyone remembers them so fondly especialy in their design, an icon i think ...;)

749 still a current bike !!

I'm not sure, but i think that's because of some stupid law about rodoviary security
If you notice, all the bikes that came out in the last couple of years with dual headlight have one one headlight on (except for the 04 R1 that has 4 - 2x2 - front lights).
The current RSVR has both headlamps on all the time whether on dipped or main beam, which is how it should be IMHO if you have side by side lamps.
Also on the 749/999, both are never on at the same time its either one or the other, so it always looks good.
The 1098 appears to use similar headlamps to the 999 juts layed out differently

Red is so old hat... black and yellow are the way to go...
Seriously though - the black looks awesome... :D
Well i'll be sure to "****" my leg over one as soon as possible, hopefully i can try and persuade my dealer to lend me one when i take mine in for a service :)
If this is as light as claimed and it is said to outrun a gsx-r thou in all conditions, coupled with the power delivery of a twin, is it possible that Ducati have created the perfect sportsbike? It could well be possible we are witnessing absolute greatness in the making here.
I can't wait to see/ride one in the flesh.

The EEC decided that with both headlights on,at night it could be confused with a car but much further away due to the close distance between the headlights which has caused motorcycle fatalities in the past.If you get my drift.

Still, one good thing to come out of the new bike is that lots of us can get our 916/998 bikes valued when the Antiques Road Show hits town!
Woah.........Steady on there.........only the 999 been replaced as far as I can see !

It's a 10% thang, Ducati 824 doesn't quite have the same ring to it as 749:lol:
Shan't be bothering with one of these new gutless 1098s gonna wait for the 1198r or 1200r, when ya go as slow as I do round the corners ya need BIG BHP to make it up on the straights:frog:
Ray.
Hmmm, a single seat S in gloss black ... now that's a bike I'd have!

Ditto. I absolutely agree Tony. :bouncy:

Someone better tell Aprilia then! as their bikes have both on all the time;)
Was thinking of trying to keep up with 583 DD bikes round Cadwell on the DSC days:eek:
The 998r just can't cut the mustard anymore:eek::D
Ray.
One thing , has anyone got size/dimensions?
Particularly interested in the eseat height?
