There are two types which are not interchangeable, i would treat with caution, i think one has two holes and one has more. I bought one that didnt fit hence the comment.

Think you probably ended up with a 748/916 type as all 749/999 types are the same fitment with one hole at the front and one at the rear of fork

Nah i checked the ones i used to sell, up to 2004 is one style, after that the 2005 differs. Neither are interchangeable as i found to my cost.

So how do you explain the fact that a 2003 999 has the same forks as a 2006 999 -how can the mudguards be different fitment?

My '05 999 had a carbon guard from an '03 bike for a while,...fitted straight on.You are not thinking of the rear hugger are you?

part numbers for 999s 06 564.1.042.1CA and for 999S 04 564.1.042.1AA the last 2 letters are colour code i think, only 1 carbon front guard listed in DPP catalogue for all 749/999 models 96951403BA so it looks like there is only 1 fitting type.

The definative answer is YES IT WILL fit!:)
Yep the shape is slightly differant but the mounting holes are exactly the same.
Trust me.

I second that as I also fitted an 05 carbon front from 999R to an 04 749s

God knows then, i had two carbon ones and both were differant, one had more holes from memory. I sold one to a guy who said it didnt fit, i got another which differed, sent him that and it was fine.Both were 749/999 front mudguards.
I had photos also which i cannot find now but one for sure cobblers it certainly aint.

No i was looking at a carbon 05 one that was on eBay at the time.Thanks anyway.
