View Full Version : Despatch riders bike, check it out!
It belongs to one of the guys at work.
Notice the panniers which are actually a set of cheap suitcases that cost £30 in total. He made a frame up to mount them. Sprays them with WD40 every now and then to waterproof them.
The special comfort seat is bubble wrap stuffed into a nylon bag and strapped to the seat. WOrks as well and is far cheaper than something like an Airhawk seat.
He got 24,000 miles from his last back tyre.
The bike cost £475 and he has covered 75,000 miles on it.
Cost effective biking, he's not skint, just begrudges spending money on non essential items.

I take it thats his dry bike,in the back of the shot then,is it ??,cos that won't do 75,000 miles, thats for sure !

Thats my 17,000 mile 996R in the background, i'd like to see it reach 75,000 miles. I think it was Moto's 748 that nearly reached 60,000 miles before it was written off.
Years ago one of the guys used an old Ducati 860GTS for despatching, that reached 80 or 90,000 miles........but had more than its fair share of electrical problems, so much so that he didn't like riding it at night as there was a fair chance the lights would pack up:lol:

Not even run-in yet. My old despatch maggot did over 350,000 miles before the engine came out and ended up in another despatch bike.

It looks like he could do with a high rise pipe, or slow down around Belgrave Sq.;)

Here's the current speedo reading of one of the bikes at work, 401,000 miles, i had 3 maggots, loved them as a work bike, sad to admit.

Honda CX500.
Amazing to think that a 1978 bike could take SO much abuse every day of it's working life, yet still cover them sort of mileages. With no rebores just a top up of oil occasionally.
They were so ahead of their day.
