Laptop runs Windows XP Professional, and from time to time when closing down it wants to install updates which is quite normal. However it wants to do this everytime i close it down now.

It may be that Microsoft have been releasing lots of updates everyday recently but just strikes me as strange, and i'm curious.

Ideas please.

Are you letting the laptop shut itself down after installing the updates? It may be it doesn't get the chance to install them all before it switches off or goes into hibernate.

I've been getting updates almost every day, mostly spyware signature updates i think.

Shaun, try going to windows update you'll see it on the start menu and let the automated scan go away and sort itself out. This may or may not force the updates to install there and then rather than at shutdown. You could check the event logs to see what's going on and see if they are failing or they are indeed new updates etc
