Hi

I want to check the belts on my ST2 because the bike has been standing for 4 months. Is it as simple as taking the belt covers off and looking for "kinks". The bike has hardly been used since it's last service, is there anything else I should be looking for whilst I've got the fairing off?

The bike has been kept undercover (outside) on front and rear paddock stands. The battery has also been on maintenance charge.

cheers

Personally i wouldn't worry about it, just check the tyre pressures and get on and ride the thing!

My 996 spent alot of time sitting around before I bought it. I had the belts changed eventually for piece of mind but they looked fine. I'm not saying this will always be the case but it was for me.

Having said that they should be changed every two years or 12,000 miles i think, whichever comes first.

I've had 7 Ducati's over the last few years and they all spend winter, late Oct to Late March, in the garage.

Never checked the belts before taking them out in spring and never had a problem yet. From what I've been told you need to change belts when the service schedule says, does not matter if the bike has been used or stood.
